SUB : Overspeed test of 100 / 200 / 210 MW turbines of LMW design
Emergency governor (overspeed protection) can be tested either by actually
overspeeding the set during no-load operation or by oil injection during on-load
(power) operation of the turbine.
The following test schedule is recommended:
By oiI injection
After erection or capital overhaul of the turbine
After any maintenance / adjustment of governing / protection system
elements
After a shutdown > 15 days
Routine test during normal operation of the turbine every month.
By actuaI overspeeding
After capital overhaul
After any maintenance / adjustment of overspeed protection system elements
Once in a year
Note
1. Actual over speed test should not be performed while turbine is cold.
2. Actual over speed test should not be performed more than once in a year
3. t is desirable to test the overspeed protection system by oil injection after
every overspeed test.
4. t is prohibited to increase the speed of the turbine beyond 3360 rpm under
any circumstances during tests or otherwise.
