Topic:

Based in the multiple intelligences theory, everybody has his/her particular expertise which is the most dominant among the other expertise. Do you agree that the most dominant intelligence/expertise should determine one's field of work?

The Reasons Why Intelligence should not Determine People's Job I don't agree that the most dominant intelligence/expertise should determine one's field of work because of personal reasons, social reasons, and financial reasons.

The Reasons Why Intelligence should not Determine People's Job

Have you ever heard about multiple intelligence? Multiple intelligence is a theory which was presented by Howard Gardner, a Harvard Education Professor. In the multiple intelligence, someone could have many intelligences but just one is the most dominant. With that theory, someone could know what intelligence she/he has. However, with that theory too, many people are getting confused to choose the right field of work/job for them. They have to choose the job because of the most dominant intelligence that they have or because they are able and enjoy doing that job, although the job is not based on their most dominant multiple intelligence. In my opinion, if I have to choose, I will choose the job which I am able and enjoy doing it. In other words, I believe that the most dominant intelligence should not determine one's field of work because of personal reasons, social reasons, and financial reasons. The first reason why the most dominant intelligence should not determine one's field of work are personal reasons. The first aspect of those reasons is the dissimilarity between intelligence and interest. For having a job, someone has to have an interest in his/her job. When someone has had that interest, he/she can work well. It means that someone who works because he/she has interest in that job can be more effective and can gain more productivity. For example, take a look at Bill Gates. He can become a successful person, even the most rich person in the world because he has developed his interest, in computer, becomes his business. The second aspect in the personal arguments why the most dominant intelligence should not determine one's field of work is lack of education. Another important aspect to get a job which must be noticed besides the most dominant intelligence is having the right education. Nowadays, almost all of the companies want the applicants to have the right title if they have a desire to apply for a job. Someone can't be a doctor, for example, even though she/he has the most dominant intelligence in that subject because he/she doesn't have the medical education. So, sometimes, the education and the most dominant intelligence can be unsuitable. The third aspect and the final aspect in the personal arguments why the most dominant intelligence should not determine one's field of work is lack of other requirements.

Another aspect which can determine someone's job is the other requirements besides the intelligence. All people must know that when someone applies for a job, he/she has to give attention to the other requirements that should be had by the applicant. The examples of other requirements are not using eyeglasses, having driving licence, having experience in that job, etc. So, it proves that the other requirements should be given attention too by the person to determine his/her field of work. The second reason why the most dominant intelligence should not determine one's field of work are social reasons. The first aspect in social reasons is lack of job opportunities. In the globalization era, having a job is getting more and more difficult. Statistical Agency of Indonesia proves that more than nine million people in Indonesia which have already been in their productive age don't have any job. In comparison, there are only 100 million people who have a job, or we can say that approximately one of ten productive workers in Indonesia doesn't have any job. So, someone should think intelligently to choose a job wisely, not only because he/she has the most dominant intelligence in that job but also he/she must think about that job's opportunities. The second aspect in social reasons why the most dominant intelligence should not determine one's field of work in personal reasons is family reason. For someone who has already had a family (wife and children), it must be hard to do a job that requires him/her to be separated from his/her family because she/he has to go to another place because his/her work requires him/her to do that. Because of that reason, someone should have a talk first with his/her family. In other words, the family should be given attention too if someone wants to decide to start choosing a job. The third and final reason why the most dominant intelligence should not determine one's field of work are financial reasons. The financial reasons consist of the salary and the other allowance aspects. The first aspect of financial reasons is the salary. What are people looking for in their job? Most of them would say that they work because they need the money from that job to fulfill their needs. Because of that fact, someone who is looking for a job should consider about the salary that is provided by that job. The final aspect of financial reasons is allowance. Allowance is some amount of money, given by the corporation or company to the worker monthly or annually. Allowance usually is given to cover the cost spent by the workers to do their work. So, by having a good allowance, it can be a good stimulus for the workers. Also, with having the allowance, it

proves that the company cares about their workers. Because of that fact, someone who wants to get a job should pay attention to the allowance which is given. In brief, having a job which is suitable with the most dominant intelligence will be very good, but with the globalization era, many aspects should be considered, one of them is personal reasons. Choosing a job should be discussed with the family and the work finders should take a look for the best job opportunities, or these can be called social reasons. The other reasons which are also important to the applicant are financial reasons.
