& Sco#e 1.1 This standard defines mandatory general requirements governing in-situ pressure testing of new and existing pipelines, plant piping and pressure containing process equipment (hereinafter called equipment). Specific requirements are covered in the specific S !Ss applica"le to that equipment or piping system. This standard supplements S#! $%1&s and other applica"le codes. The requirements of this standard apply to field(shop fa"ricated piping systems and field fa"ricated equipment. This standard does not cover pressure testing of new, shop fa"ricated equipment such as vessels, tan)s, heat exchangers and s)id mounted piping which are purchased in accordance with the applica"le S #SS.
Exception: Fin-fan coolers are to be tested in situ in accordance with paragraph 6.4.5.

Strength Test: pressure test at an internal pressure determined in accordance with this standard and the applica"le 1ode to verify the integrity of the piping systems or equipment for service at the design pressure. Fhen large systems are tested, -nspection personnel will determine the need for additional gauges. 2ecording gauges shall "e used where it is necessary to )eep a permanent record, e.g., when the test duration exceeds four hours, or otherwise as required "y this standard.

Fhen filling at the lowest point is not practical, the -nspection 0epartment( +perations -nspection !ngineering Enit shall "e consulted. ll vents shall "e open during filling. @.1.' fter the test pressure is reached and "efore commencement of inspection of the system, the isolation valve "etween the temporary test manifold(piping and the piping(equipment under pressure test shall "e closed and the test pump disconnected. The isolation valve downstream of the manifold shall "e opened after the pump is disconnected.
