Compare the direction of current and past trends in both communication and networking and explain how these

changes have impacted business. Analyze why the burden on managers is greater today than in previous years when it comes to using technology efficiently. Give two examples that defend this claim. Data communication deals with the transmission of signals in reliable and effect manager. Data communications is becoming an increasingly important part of everyday life, with the explosive growth of the Internet, third generation mobile networks that support multi-media applications and the increasing need for enterprises to communicate with their customers, their suppliers and their employees. Networking deals with the technology and architecture of the communications networks used to interconnect communicating devices. Networks also can be used to improve the reliability of information services. Companies often have back-up computer facilities in a separate location to their operational centers. For most of mankinds history the speed at which information could be shared over a long distance depended on how fast a messenger could run or ride a horse. More sophisticated methods did evolve to transmit limited information such as the use of drums, smoke signals, and beacons, semaphore signaling and carrier pigeons, but all of these systems had their limitations. The rst recorded use of beacons is when Troy fell in about 1200 BC. Finally, trends in technology enable the provision of increasing traffic capacity and the support of a wide range of services. The below four technology trends are particularly notable. The first trend toward faster and cheaper, both in computing and communications, continues. In terms of computing, this means more powerful computers and clusters of computers capable of supporting more demanding applications, such as multimedia applications. In terms of communications, the increasing use of optical fiber and highspeed wireless has brought transmission prices down and greatly increased capacity. Second trend is Voice-oriented telecommunications networks, such as the public switched telephone network (PSTN), and data networks, including the Internet, are more intelligent than ever. The Internet, the Web, and associated applications have emerged as dominant features of both the business and personal world, opening up many opportunities and challenges for managers. A final trend toward ever-increasing mobility for decades, liberating workers from the confines of the physical enterprise. Innovations include voice mail, remote data access, pagers, fax, e-mail, cordless phones, cell phones and cellular networks, and Internet portals. Technology can work for you or against you. Effectively planned and managed, use of appropriate technology to support your business can be painless and cost-effective. Managers are facing the below burdens with the new technology.

Keeping up with emerging technology & finding ways to incorporate it in their businesses at a reasonable cost. Finding ways to incorporate technology into networks as well as making them secure and reliable. Faced with the difficult task of smart devices & using these devices efficiently, cost effectively, and securely via their networks.
