4. Upgrading to This Version

This section lists important notes on upgrading FlexMaster, ZoneDirector and ZoneFlex Access Points to this version.

4.1. ZoneDirector
4.1.1. Official 9.7 upgrade paths supported: 9.5.0.0.156 9.5.1.0.50 9.5.2.0.15 9.5.3.0.44 9.6.0.0.267 9.6.1.0.15 9.6.1.0.20 9.7.0.0.155 9.7.0.0.200

If you are running an earlier version, you must first upgrade to version 9.5 or 9.6 before upgrading to 9.7. 4.1.2. Two ZoneDirectors 1100 that are configured in Smart Redundancy configuration should not be directly upgraded from any previous release (other than 9.5.2, 9.5.3 or 9.6.1) to release 9.7 without first disabling Smart Redundancy. If upgrading to 9.7 from any other release, you must first disable Smart Redundancy, upgrade both devices to standalone mode and then re-establish Smart Redundancy configuration on both devices. Detailed instructions are outlined in a user document that is downloaded as part of the actual 9.7 firmware download from the Ruckus Support portal. (ID ZF-4050)

4.2. ZoneFlex Access Points

4.2.1. Standalone ZoneFlex Access Points running on version 9.5 and later can be upgraded to this version. 4.2.2. ZoneFlex 7441 is new in this release.

4.3.3. Beginning with release 9.5, the FlexMaster image does not contain the ZoneDirector firmware as in previous releases. Users must upload the ZoneDirector build manually using the Configure > Manage Firmware Files page. 4.3.4. FlexMaster upgrade procedure: Beginning with release 9.4, FlexMaster upgrade files are delivered in .tar format to enhance upgrade process control. The new upgrade script and patch files are contained in this tarball. Please refer to following steps for the new upgrade procedure: 1. Upload the patch file (e.g. 9.6.0.0.17-9.7.0.0.21.tar) to the FM server. 2. Copy the patch file (e.g. 9.6.0.0.17-9.7.0.0.21.tar) to the FM folder (e.g. /opt/FlexMaster/): cp 9.6.0.0.17-9.7.0.0.21.tar /opt/FlexMaster/
Page 6 of 20

Ruckus Wireless ZoneFlex version 9.7 Release Notes

3. Untar the patch file with following command: tar -vxf 9.6.0.0.17-9.7.0.0.21.tar 4. Make sure the *.patch (9.7.0.0.21.patch) file has been extracted from the tar file and upgrade the FM with following command: ./upgrade.sh 9.7.0.0.21 4.3.5. Due to a compatibility issue between MySQL and ext4 partition (for information, see http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=46959), Ruckus recommends installing FlexMaster on an ext3 partition. If this is not possible and an ext4 partition must be used, Ruckus recommends disabling the barrier option on the partition where FlexMaster is to be installed. Use the following commands to disable the barrier option: # umount /opt # mount -o barrier=0 /dev/sda1 /opt 4.3.6. If upgrading ZoneDirector(s) along with FlexMaster, you should first perform the upgrade on FlexMaster before upgrading ZoneDirector. For multi-release upgrades, you should first ensure the ZD version is the same as the FM version before continuing with the FM upgrade. For example: FM/ZD 9.5 to 9.7 upgrade: Step 1, upgrade FM 9.5 9.6 Step 2, upgrade ZD 9.5 9.6 Step 3, upgrade FM 9.6 9.7 Step 4, upgrade ZD 9.6 9.7 4.3.7. When upgrading to 9.7, the dashboard layout will be reset to the default layout. (ID ZF-5175)

5. Enhancements and Resolved Issues

This section lists enhancements that have been added and issues from previous releases that have been resolved in this release.

5.1. ZoneDirector
5.1.1. Enhancements
5.1.2. Maximum Clients by ZoneDirector Model (ZF-4830) With this release, Ruckus has removed the tiered client count based on AP licenses installed, and the ZoneDirector maximum number of clients per controller has been increased to match the maximum license levels for each model. The total number of combined Local, Guest and DPSK users per controller is as follows: ZD 1100: 1,250 ZD 3000: 10,000 ZD 5000: 20,000 The following table illustrates the max client limits by connection type:
ZD 1100 Access Points Throughput Performance Max Clients 50 256MB 1,250 ZD 3000 500 500MB 10,000 ZD 5000 1000 1GB 20,000

Dynamic PSKs Guest Authentication Local DB Authentication

1,000 1,250 1,250

10,000 10,000 6,000

10,000 20,000 6,000

5.1.3. Autonomous WLANs A new WLAN type, Autonomous is now available. In an autonomous WLAN, Access Points will continue providing service to clients when disconnected from ZoneDirector. Autonomous WLANs support Open authentication and WEP/WPA/WPA2/WPA-Mixed/None encryption, and all authentication/association requests are processed at the AP rather than being forwarded to ZoneDirector. 5.1.4. WIPS Enhancements Several enhancements to the Wireless Intrusion Prevention System give administrators more control over rogue devices. The Intrusion Detection and Prevention section of the WIPS page now contains options for selecting which types of rogue devices trigger event notifications, and the Rogue Devices monitoring page now contains a tree view for locating rogue devices

by detected APs and a Mark as Malicious link to manually mark an AP as malicious. 5.1.5. Smart Client Single Redirection Improved HTTP redirection for clients attempting to connect to a Hotspot WLAN with WISPr Smart Client support enabled. 5.1.6. SmartWay Bonjour Gateway The SmartWay Bonjour Gateway feature allows customers to bridge Bonjour services (such as AirPlay, Apple TV and other Apple network services) across VLANs and subnets. Additionally, the SmartWay Bonjour Gateway provides filtering services to limit which Bonjour services are allowed to be shared across network segments. ZoneDirector is preconfigured with the common Bonjour service types making configuration of the SmartWay Bonjour Gateway extremely simple. The Bonjour Gateway operates on the ZoneDirector and must see the VLAN traffic. 5.1.7. Spectralink Compatibility ZoneDirectors AP and AP group configuration screens now include an option to optimize radio settings for compatibility with Spectralink phones. When enabled, this option changes settings such as DTIM, BSS minrate and RTSCTS to improve voice quality. For optimal voice quality, Self-Healing and Background Scanning should also be disabled when Spectralink Compatibility is enabled on any AP. 5.1.8. ChannelFly Enhancements When ChannelFly is enabled, the AP group configuration screen provides a new option to disable ChannelFly when an APs uptime is greater than the specified value. This provides a run stop mode to use ChannelFly to determine the optimal channel and stay on it after a predetermined timeframe. Additionally, Ruckus access points now retain ChannelFly performance learning data to prevent the access point from beginning a new channel learning phase after a reboot. This feature is available for both ZoneDirector managed and Standalone access points. 5.1.9. Ekahau Support ZoneDirector now supports Ekahau tag detection and configuration of an Ekahau Real Time Location System server for physical asset location tracking over Wi-Fi. 5.1.10. Multiple PMKs for Each Station Enhanced key caching mechanism for Opportunistic Key Caching to provide better support for roaming between APs when using 802.1X authentication. 5.1.11. Full Layer 2 Client Isolation The Client Isolation feature now isolates clients in a more comprehensive and intuitive way, and no longer provides local and full isolation options only enabled or disabled. This enhancement provides full Layer 2 isolation for ZoneDirector-controlled APs. It does not apply to standalone APs.

5.1.12. Radar Avoidance Pre-Scanning (RAPS) The Radar Avoidance Pre-Scanning (RAPS) setting allows pre-scanning of DFS channels in the 5 GHz band to ensure the channel is clear of radar signals prior to transmitting on the channel. If a channel is blocked by this feature, it will be listed as DFS Block Radar in the AP monitoring page. This setting affects select outdoor dual band 802.11n AP models only (7781CM, 7782 and SC-8800-S). It will have no impact on APs that do not support the feature. The option will also only be available if the Country Code settings are configured to allow use of DFS channels. 5.1.13. DHCP Server with Smart Redundancy ZoneDirectors internal DHCP server can now be enabled on two ZoneDirectors in a Smart Redundancy configuration. 5.1.14. Force DHCP on WLAN The Force DHCP option can be enabled to prevent clients configured with a static IP address from accessing the WLAN and consuming wireless resources. 5.1.15. RADIUS Disconnect Message Enhancement RADIUS Disconnect Messages can now be used by administrators to actively disconnect a specific user session from the RADIUS server. This forces the wireless client to restart its association procedure and renew its session attributes. 5.1.16. Addition of Bahrain, Kenya and Qatar Country Codes

6. Caveats, Limitations and Known Issues

This section lists the caveats, limitations, and known issues for FlexMaster, ZoneDirector and ZoneFlex Access Points in this version. Please also refer to previous (e.g., 9.5, 9.6) Release Notes documents for previously documented caveats and limitations.

6.1. ZoneDirector
6.1.1. Web Interface
6.1.2. ZoneDirector release 9.7 supports the following Web browsers: Firefox 3.0 and later Internet Explorer 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 Chrome 5.0 and later (Not recommended for performing upgrades.)

6.1.3. General
6.1.4. APs may not be displayed properly in all AP groups under certain conditions. (ID ZF-3675) 6.1.5. The active Smart Redundancy ZoneDirector 3000 may fail to upgrade when free memory is less than 120 MB, even if there is about 230 MB memory in cache. (ID ZF-6496) Workaround: In a Smart Redundancy configuration, the active device first upgrades the standby device before upgrading itself. If the active device is low on memory, first Failover to the standby and reboot the original active device to free up memory. Then perform the upgrade from the original standby (now active) ZoneDirector. 6.1.6. ZoneDirector 3000 is not recommended for SmartCell Insight deployments due to memory limitations. Currently, Ruckus recommends using ZoneDirector 5000 only; ZoneDirector 3000 will be supported in future releases. (ID ZF-6146) 6.1.7. Spectrum analysis is not supported with IPv6 addressing. (ID ZF-4182) 6.1.8. The standby Smart Redundancy ZoneDirector may fail to sync configuration from the Active ZoneDirector after upgrading to this release if the standby device has loaded a backup configuration file before upgrading. (ID ZF-2950) Workaround: Factory reset the standby device prior to upgrading. 6.1.9. iOS 6 devices may be unable to authenticate to a Hotspot WLAN with an HTTPS login page using Safari browser, if the SSL certificate is not a thirdparty certificate or the certificate is expired. This is due to a change in the way iOS handles SSL certificates. (ID ZF-2392) 6.1.10. iOS devices cannot discover Airprint after upgrading ZoneDirector from a pre9.7 GA build (155, 200, 219) to 9.7 GA build (220) if the _universal._ipp._tcp service type has not be configured. (ID ZF-6480)

Ruckus Wireless ZoneFlex version 9.7 Release Notes

6.1.11. When a user deletes Bonjour Gateway rules in an active Smart Redundancy ZoneDirector, the rule deletion does not properly sync to the standby device. (ID ZF-6463) Workaround: Disable then re-enable Bonjour Gateway after failover if you encounter this issue. 6.1.12. When two Apple TVs connected to different APs advertise the same name in different VLANs, the latest responder cannot proxy to the destination VLAN. (ID ZF-6358) Workaround: Change the Bonjour service name for one of the Apple TVs so that they do not conflict. 6.1.13. If two WLANs with the same name but different WLAN IDs exist on two Smart Redundancy ZoneDirectors, and these WLANs are in a custom WLAN Group rather than the default WLAN group, the standby ZoneDirector may fail to synchronize its configuration with the active ZoneDirector. (ID ZF-6251) Workaround: Factory reset the standby ZoneDirector before synchronizing configuration. 6.1.14. Under certain specific conditions, RADIUS Accounting server failover to the backup server may fail. This issue only occurs if failover happens twice within a short time period (the first failover is always successful, the second failover back to the original active server may fail under certain conditions). (ID ZF6117) Workaround: Adjust the Request Timeout and Max Retries values if you encounter this issue. 6.1.15. DHCP Option 82 changes that were introduced in release 9.5.3 are not included in this release. APs that were running 9.5.3 with Option 82 enabled may be unable to insert Option 82 after upgrading to 9.7. (ID ZF-6009, ZF6499, ZF-6543)

6.1.16. Smart Client Single Redirection

6.1.17. Smart Client single redirection is not supported when APs are behind NAT. (ID ZF-3880) 6.1.18. Smart Client is not supported with IPv6. (ID ZF-3864)

6.1.19. Client Isolation

6.1.20. Some non-ARP packets (such as IGMP, NBNS, etc.) may still be passed when client isolation is enabled. (ID ZF-4490) 6.1.21. Some functions of the Mesh Packet Forwarding Filter (MPFF) do not function properly after upgrading to 9.7 due to changes in the way Client Isolation interacts with the MPFF. (ID ZF-4411) 6.1.22. The Client Isolation Whitelist feature is designed for whitelisting wired stations; putting a wireless a stations MAC or IP address into a client isolation whitelist will cause the station to become an "island". (ID ZF-4096)

Ruckus Wireless ZoneFlex version 9.7 Release Notes

6.1.23. MPFF (Mesh Packet Forwarding Filter) has been replaced by the Client Isolation feature. When upgrading from 9.6 to 9.7, if ZD had MPFF enabled, all the WLANs will automatically be marked as Client-Isolation enabled. If one is setting up a new mesh network in 9.7 and wants to emulate the MPFF feature, mark all service WLANs as Client Isolation enabled. By doing so, clients connected to a WLAN cannot spoof the MAC address of core network devices such as default gateways and DHCP servers. Also, these clients cannot receive frames from any device other than the specified list of core network devices. Therefore, clients cannot communicate with each other. All of the above behavior remains the same as under MPFF. One difference is that some mesh links (depending on the exact topology) might have higher link utilization when isolated clients send a large amount of broadcast frames.

6.2. FlexMaster
6.2.1. Web Interface
6.2.2. FlexMaster release 9.7 supports the following Web browsers: Firefox 3.0 and above Chrome 5.0 and above Safari 5.1.7 and above

6.2.3. Ruckus recommends using the latest version of Firefox, Chrome or Safari browser for FlexMaster administration. 6.2.4. Internet Explorer 7 is not supported due to critical compatibility issues (ID ZF736/738/BUGZ-10434) 6.2.5. IE 8, 9 and 10 are supported but are not recommend due to several UI compatibility issues (ID ZF-622/293/689/691/848/880/891/3818/3798/3797)

6.2.6. General
6.2.7. Dashboard graphs and Report views may display inconsistent client data due to different processes running at different intervals. Depending on the number of APs and clients, FlexMaster may require several minutes to complete the update process, during which time the client counts displayed may be inconsistent. (ZF-3824, ZF-3422) 6.2.8. Changing VLAN based QoS on the AP Device View Ethernet Ports configuration page may fail to properly change the settings on the AP port. (ID ZF-3993) 6.2.9. Moving APs between ZoneDirectors or redundant ZD failover will cause inconsistency between FlexMaster # of reboots report graph and its table view. (ID ZF-3872) 6.2.10. FlexMaster may display incorrect standalone AP uptime/downtime statistics. (ID ZF-3574) 6.2.11. FlexMaster will only update the dashboard data and user custom views for users who have logged in within the last 3 days. (ID ZF-4186)

6.2.12. The Indoor Map can only support up to 3,000 APs in Report > Device > All Access Points report. (ID ZF-2883) 6.2.13. Enabling the 5.8G feature and selecting a 5.8GHz channel in the same template will cause the task to fail. (ID ZF-4461) 6.2.14. Administrators should sync the FlexMaster time with the ZoneDirector time prior to generating reports to ensure the reports display the correct time.
