POSITIONING OF 5530 NA-C

OPERATIONAL CHALLENGES
ENSURING STABILITY AND PERFORMANCE ON A GIVEN LINE BEFORE ACTIVATION IS DIFFICULT

Pre-qualification
Pre-qualification for DSL loops difficult (using SELT) Upgrade prediction complex with new DSL technologies Lack of visibility prevents optimized roll-out plan

Line management
Metallic test access requires service interruption Sub-optimal performance and line stability issues

THE RE-ACTIVE NATURE OF EXISTING TOOLS PROHIBITS LINE OPTIMIZATION AND PRO-ACTIVE MAINTENANCE

Troubleshooting
Complaints are vague. Identifying the issue typically takes a long time making First Call Resolution unlikely Existing Copper Test infrastructure not usable to troubleshoot problems in higher DSL frequencies Difficult to detect intermittent line problems currently go unresolved Lack of visibility causes systematic escalations to next level More truck rolls are required to solve problems

TRADITIONAL TESTING SYSTEMS DONT PROVIDE THE VISIBILITY REQUIRED FOR DSL LINE QUALITY

NA-C ASSISTS IN ACCESS LINE LIFECYCLE MANAGEMENT

Pre-Qualification

Support operator in prequalifying a copper loop for DSL services Enables qualification of operational DSL lines network-wide for the upgrade to a new DSL technology or a high bit rate service

Line Management

Automatically optimize the line configuration depending on the measured line conditions and service quality requirements using Dynamic Line Management (DLM) Ensure that the network remains stable, especially when lines are upgraded to new DSL technologies or services requiring a high bit rate Automated proactive network maintenance avoids customer service complaints being offloaded on the service providers customer care department

Troubleshooting

Helps customer service representatives and network operators to speed up the task of problem identification and resolution for DSL Diagnosis of DSL performance degradation problems Used by first-level support, second-level support, and network operators Reactive, on-demand diagnosis and proactive network maintenance DSL troubleshooting and POTS/ISDN problem diagnosis

PRE-QUALIFICATION
SELT & UPGRADE PREDICTOR

PRE-QUALIFICATION

SELT
distance (and capacity) estimation on a clean loop without CPE loop conditioning (bridged tap detection)

Upgrade Predictor
What would be the attainable bit rate for ADSL2+ DS or VDSL2 US/DS?

SINGLE ENDED LINE TESTING FEATURES

no CPE

LINE PRE-QUALIFICATION

SELT
Loop pre-qualification when CPE is not present
distance estimation (optionally) capacity estimation for different DSL flavors save as reference

Reflectometry test

Loop conditioning (bridged tap detection)

Benefits

SELT is useful when you want to do provisioning: what is the loop length? What will I be able to run on the line? SELT is useful in troubleshooting: you can detect loop faults. If the loop length is at a distance equal to the position of a MDF, the NA can advise you to go and check the MDF. This is configurable via the system settings and also per DSLAM.

Note

DELT = Dual End Line Testing (described in the ADSL2 standard). If two modems can communicate (they dont even need to synchronize!), they can send information on line conditions. Drawback: you need to have a modem at the remote end!

SINGLE ENDED LINE TESTING FEATURES

LINE PRE-QUALIFICATION

SELT is used to test a subscriber loop from the CO when it is not synchronized. SELT performed by the CO DSL transceiver but data is processed by a 5530NA module.
