CHAPTER 19

The Remaining Six

Key Passage:
For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant. [43] And he brought forth his people
with joy, and his chosen with gladness: [44] And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they
inherited the labour of the people; [45] That they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Praise
ye the Lord.

The Tribe of (verses 1-9)


1. The land area allotted to Simeon included
13 cities.
2. The land inherited by the tribe of Simeon
was within the borders of Judah.
3. The families of Judah did oppose
the tribe of Simeon receiving some of the
cities within their territory.

The Tribe of (verses 10-16)


1. The land area allotted to Zebulun included
12 cities (a different Bethlehem in verse
15).
2. It was the land north of Manasseh where
Zebulun received his inheritance (west of
the Sea of Galilee).
3. This area and the land of Naphtali are
where the will
spend a lot of His time ministering.
4. Zebulun was the younger brother of
Issachar, but the order of the inheritance
was reversed by the of
God.

The Tribe of (verses 17-23)


1. The boundaries of Issachar are not given in
as much detail as the preceding tribes.
2. The Jordan River on the east, the borders
of Manasseh on its south and southwest,
Zebulun on its northwest, and Naphtali on
its north.
3. Issachar received 16 towns.

The Tribe of (verses 24-31)


1. The land area allotted to Asher included 22 cities.
2. It was located on the west coast next to the Mediterranean Sea.
3. Asher's neighbor on the southeast was Zebulun, and on the east it was Naphtali.

The Tribe of (verses 32-39)


1. Nineteen fortified cities belonged to the tribe of Naphtali.
2. The Sea of Chinnereth (Galilee) and the Jordan River north of the Sea of Galilee formed Naphtali's eastern
border.
3. Naphtali shared borders on the west with Asher, on the southwest with Zebulun, and on the south with
Issachar.
The Tribe of (verses 40-48)
1. The tribe of Dan either could not conquer the enemies in their land or they were not satisfied with what God
gave them (Judges 18).
• As a tribe, they move north and take the city of Leshem (verse 47).
• They wanted their "own place" not the place God had for them.
2. The independent spirit of Dan led to an independent priesthood and idol worship (Judges 17-18).

The Leader of Israel: (verses 49-51)


1. The people show their appreciation by giving Joshua his own inheritance.
• Timnath-serah is also called Timnath-heres in Judges 2:9.
• Timnath-serah was within his tribal allotment of Ephraim.
2. Joshua's inheritance was commanded by God Himself (verse 25).
• He was a godly leader, a man who followed God with all his heart and strength.
• God took care of His dear servant, making absolutely sure that he received his inheritance.
