Intent
Understanding Students will read the book. Students will label the monster form the story. Students will describe the monster from the story. Students will create their own monsters. Students will make a wanted poster.
Key text
Students will read Bedtime for Monsters by Ed Vere. Students will create a monster of their own.
Explore differences in words that represent people, places and things (nouns, including pronouns), happenings and states (verbs), qualities (adjectives) and details such as when, where and how (adverbs) Discuss how authors create characters using language and images Write using unjoined lower case and upper case letters
Knowledge Students will read the book Bedtime for Monsters by Ed Vere. Skills Read Discuss Key questions and activities Read Predict what will happen in the book based on the books cover and title. Read the book aloud to the class and then discuss the book with the students. Assessment

Students will label and describe the monster from the story.
Label Describe
Discuss Brainstorm on the board word that can describe monsters. (What do monsters look like, feel like or smell like?) Label - Demonstrate how to label different parts of the monster on the worksheet using these words. Have students label the monster on their worksheets and write a sentence to describe their monster. Students who finish early can colour in their monster or write more than one sentence about their monster. Students who need more help can use labels with words already written onto them.
Design
Design students will be shown how to draw arms, legs, head and a body for a monster. They will then cut these out, attach them together with brads and then decorate their monsters. Students will take photos of their monsters for use in later lessons. Templates can be given to students who are struggling.
Formative Assess if students can incorporate the features of a monster into their design.
Create
Create Students will use the photos taken of their monsters to make a wanted poster. They will describe what their monster looks like and provide a reward for
Differentiation Templates can be provided to students when they create their own monsters. Have labels with adjectives already written on them for students to use. Extension Students can extend their writing. Students can organize taking the photos of the completed monsters. Students can complete colouring in the backgrounds on their wanted posters.
