Name: Abutab Surname: Abbasova Instructor: Cheryl Pavlik Title: Prompt 1-B Some sayings which are widespread

in todays world are commonly used by the people. During the living period of society lots of well-known people used the expressions which are mottos now. John F. Kennedy- 35th president of USA is mentioned with the phrase that everyone wanted to hear for a long time. Of those to whom much is given, much is required is an expression about which I think in a positive way as a slogan of humanism, legality and fairness. First of all I made a research about this expression and found out that it was not only his thoughts because the phrase he said was shown and interpreted in the Bible. The Bible says, And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth. We will be asked about what we have done with our wealth when we die. Therefore, in our living period we must effort to assist people who are in need. There are some people who does not even know where to waste money. In my opinion one day God will punish them. Here is a real experience of mine: once I met with my fathers friend who was really wealthy. As we met she left good impressions on me. However, after 2 years I heard that she died. After her death according to her testimony all his money belonged to her little and cute cat. I was shocked with these news and understood that we must use correctly the things which are given us by the God with helping people and doing good things for the world. It is amazing how God made me realize my own faults through others. I believe that at some time God will appreciate the helpful people like me with perfect fairness. One of the pillars of being Muslim is to give zakat (a religious tax). If you are given a necessary amount of goods you have to donate the poorer people with part of your income.

Always in Azerbaijan, as we are a Muslim country, during Ramazan holiday people besides my family give zakat to the poor people. By doing this we show that we are proper for having this money. So the people whom much is given, they pay back more than others. Moreover it creates a humanist community and equality among local people. As combining these 2 religion we can get to the conclusion that I agree with this statement because it is fair. In the holy books of Christians and Muslims this expression defined as the crucial part of being real human. These books are good illustration of protection of human rights, creation of justice and fairness among people which proofs this phrase is also fair for all societies because it is described in the books which talks about humanism. So all of the books about religion confirm Kennedys saying. Moreover, I am Muslim and I did fairness to the people according to my book. Secondly, the other reason which makes me agree with this phrase is it is legal. Evidence for this is provided by the government. In my country- in Azerbaijan there is an income tax which was written in the Tax Code by Ministry of Taxes. Furthermore, it is based on the principle of Of those to whom much is given, much is required. All the owners pay this tax according to their yearly income which comes from their business. A good example for this is a comparison of my cousins restaurant and my fathers medical center. Despite their income varies from one anothers the percentage which is required is the same. As my cousin gets more income he pays more. It is legally accepted. In our country it is appreciated by the government when rich people make a charity company and they visit poor people twice a year. They do much more than what is required. They help the government to prevent poverty. Of course it is a positive side of our nations tradition. Apart from helping local people our countrys charity fond which is named after Haydar Aliyev organizes support for the miserable people around the world. If we get to the conclusion we can say that not only I but whole the Azeri people agree with the idea.

However, others tend to believe that charity is waste of money. Instead of using money in such way, we can use it for improving our economy or military. I argue with this statement because for making this circumstance first we need to make the populations life much better by providing them a good condition for living. The last reason that makes me agree with the statement is that it reminds to be more responsible and use gifts which are given to the people who are different from others because of their talent or intelligence. These people have to use them more effectively and make prolific contributions to the society. Despite of the fact that I do not have any talent but my sister has an endowment. She is a composer and my parents discovered it when she was 8 years old. However, she did not use her talent until she was 11 years old and I can argue that despite of her gift for 3 years she did not execute her responsibility to the community. Then others criticized her and said that she is chosen by God. That is why she is required much more than others. Furthermore, she composes her masterpieces and last year she had a concert. There is no doubt that all the people who are participated in the concert enjoyed her music. It shows that the people like her have much more to do than others. In the world some people argue that talented people are not obliged to more than they are required. I do not agree with the idea cause if they do not execute their responsibilities there will not be any difference between talented and ordinary person. In conclusion I agree with the statement Of those to whom much is given, much is required because it is fair, humanist and legal. This is not a simple phrase but an indicator of our everyday life.
