FORGET ME NOTS STORY-TELLING WORKBOOK

Rabbit Emil

1. Listen/Tell the story


In the library find the book Rabbit Emil. Listen to part of the first story introducing rabbit
Emil (pp. 4,5).
Send your imagination wandering. Describe the rabbit Emil. Where does he live?
Is he pleasant or mischievous? What does he like doing? Who is he afraid of? What do
you think, will the girls be able to care for the rabbit? What would the parents say, if they
brought him home?
Listen to the first story till the end. Tell the story of how rabbit Emil changed from a wild
animal to a pet.

2. Make
In kindergarten/school make a rabbit from bits of packaging materials.

3. Listen/Draw
The teacher will read from the story Rabbit Emil, in a series of readings, which will take a
number of sessions over a period.
Gaya and Agnes wait for the rabbit Emil in vain. He does not come.
Listen to the story The Button (p. 10)
Why are they worried? Are they still bringing him food? Why did rabbit Emil look for the
owner of the button? Have you ever found an object, you did not know who it belonged
to?
Do you know, that when we meet a chimney sweep, we take hold of a button, make a
wish, and our wish will come true?
Draw what you wish for.

4. Listen/Tell the story/Draw a picture


Magician conjured a friend for the mouse Jon (Magicianʼs Gift, p.13).
Why did the mouse wish he had a friend? How did rabbit Emil and the two girls to the
mouse Jon. What is a true friend like? Who is your best friend? Why do you like him/her?
Draw a game or activity you like to play with your friends.

5. Listen/Guess
Someone brought a snack for the rabbit. Who?
Listen to the story The Lost Snack (p.18).

GUESS: Who has long ears and sharp teeth? Who guards the doorway with a broom all
the winter long? Who can do magic? etc.
With the children in the kindergarten/school friends make up riddles. The one who
guesses correctly, sets the new riddle.

6. Listen/Play a game
Gaya asked rabbit Jack, to repair her bicycle. Why did it take so long, before Gaya could
again ride on her bicycle? ( The Yellow Box, p. 22)

Guess what is hidden in the box:


The teacher places several small objects into the box (e.g: carrots, button, cap, stick...)
Blindfolded, touch the objects in the box and name them.

7. Listen/Make up a story
What did Agnes and Gaya get for a present? (The Gift, p. 28)
Together make up a poem about the rabbit in write it down. You can also make up music
for it and sing it.

8. Listen/Tell the story/Draw the picture or write


Rabbit Emil helped the fox, so that he was saved from the frozen lake (The Frozen Lake,
p. 31).
How you ever helped a friend in trouble? Tell the story.
Draw a picture of how you helped your friend. You may also write a composition with the
title I helped my friend.

9. Listen/Play roles
Listen to the stories The Wolf (p. 36) and Her Whiskers (p. 40).
Enact the following scenes:
Rabbit Emil is consoling/comforting the frightened fox,
Lonely mouse Jon meets a lovely white mouse,
Rabbit Emil in disguise scares the two girls,
Gaya asks rabbit Jack to repair her bike,
The smitten rabbit telephones his sweetheart.

10. Tell/Listen/Draw
What do you do when it is raining outside? Do you watch TV? Do you visit friends? Do
you listen to stories?
Listen to the story Storydust (p. 42) Draw colourful umbrellas.

11. Listen/ Social game


Listen to the story The Tree House (p. 45).
The game is suitable for two or more participants (Workbook, p. 6): Who will be the first
on the tree?
You need buttons and a dice. Each player gets a button. Place buttons on the box and
begin. When you find yourself on the field with the fox head picture, you can throw twice.
The first to reach the tree house is the winner.
