Main Image: - The main image that Mojo have

used in this particular magazine cover is a photo of the band Arctic monkeys. The main reason why I like the way Mojo have used this image on the front of their magazine is purely because the way they are standing they are all standing straight but looking directly into the camera, Another reason as to why I like the photo of Arctic Monkeys is because they look like a proper band in this photo they are all wearing black and the fact that they are all wearing the same items of clothing it symbolises unity. Lastly I also like the fact how Mojo have featured the most important member of Arctic Monkeys right in the centre of the magazine cover whereas the rest of his band are in the background behind him. Mojo have done this purposely for Alex Turner to stand out. I am looking at doing a band or a small group of people in my final design and on my magazine cover I intend to use a photo taken by me thats similar in position to how Arctic monkeys are standing and Im going to plan on almost replicating the placement of the band on the front cover in my magazine.

Masthead: - The mast head for mojo the majority of the time

remains white this is because white will always stand out against the majority of background colours the only real time were the Mojo mast head isnt white is on a special edition Mojo magazine an example of a special edition mojo magazine cover is the mojo edition that features Paul Weller. The reason why I like the Mojo masthead is because its Bold and simple, which proves to be effective. Throughout each edition the mojo masthead always remains in the same place as it provides the magazine with stability and it enables the reader to be able to view and purchase the magazine without having to search for it as the trademark mojo masthead always remains in the same place.

Colour Pallet: - The colour pallet that

the magazine mojo has used for this particular issue featuring Arctic monkeys is based on a white, beige and gold font. I believe this font looks effective as it looks consistent and remains to still stand out even against a white background, the colours white yellow and gold intertwine together well and really help to sell the magazine to the potential buyer.

Caps Lock Writing: - Various layers of the Mojo magazine cover

have used caps locks when font has been used the mast head and the main cover line and other cover lines have all used Cap Locks. The mast head is expected to use cap locks because its the title of the magazine and its intended to stand out because if you couldnt identify the magazine cover mast head straight away then its not going to be identifiable to the potential buyer so nobody is going to buy it. Caps locks writing has also been used in the main cover line and the other cover line as the publisher and edited of Mojo have intended to so this so it stands out and its clear to see what is in the rest of the magazine.

Boost: - Each issue of Mojo magazine provides a

Layers: - They are 16 layers used in this particular Mojo Magazine Main cover line: - The main cover
line for mojo is situated just a fraction below the heads and shoulders of the Arctic Monkeys the main cover line looks incredibly effective purely because its in a really simple basic font. The main cover line lets the potential buyer know exactly who the bands are on the magazine cover. The white colour used on the main cover line goes incredibly well with the red background and as well as Q magazine the placement against black clothing goes extremely well.

boost that will enable the amount issues sold to significantly increase the boost that Mojo provide is a free CD by providing a free CD with each issue it attracts existing readers to continue purchasing Mojo and it also attracts new readers to purchase Mojo. The good thing about Mojo doing this is it provides the purchaser with an added incentive to buy it, and this is why it is called a boost. If a music magazine reader was carefully selecting which magazine to choose there would have an increased chance of the reader choosing Mojo for the free CD. Also many existing readers of Mojo will listen to the CDs that have been included in the magazine in the car on the move where perhaps others can hear it this helps the existing uses advertise Mojo magazine and encourages them to return to get another free CD.

cover which features the arctic monkeys all of the layers are based on plain red background layer. The rest of the layers have been built up in front of this red background layer. Many of the 16 layers are imposed in front of one another as there is bound to be writing around the front cover as it helps give the potential buyer an indicator of whats within the magazine. 4 of the layers excluding the title are made up of different fonts. In my magazine I am going to aim to use 3 different fonts throughout my front cover contents page and double page spread to keep it simplistic and effective.

Barcode: - the Barcode for this issue of mojo is situated in the bottom
right corner this is where I placed my bar code in my first ever attempt on my magazine cover during activity 1. I like the way its situated and how it tells you the date and number issue of the magazine. This is a good placement for a bar code because its not directly affecting the magazine and it looks subtle as well as not looking out of place.

Banner: - A banner has been inserted in this contents

page as filler as the information on the contents page has not quite managed to fill the entire page and Mojo magazine dont want the page to look empty or there to be a white blank space as this will make the magazine look disinteresting and many people will be put off buying it or potentially reading it after buying it. The banner that has been inserted is a box banner consisting of 3 articles that are going to be in the magazine that have been listed in the contents the reason why Mojo have done this is so the reader can have a basic overview of the page before actually reading it and it fits in perfectly on the contents page.

Subheading: - Subheading has been used in the

contents page of this Mojo magazine to divide the 3 different sections that the magazine covers and further subheadings have been used to state the title of every single article thats within the magazine. The subheadings on the Contents page of Mojo magazine are usually bold with a brief description explaining the title alongside it. I like the positioning of the sub headings on this contents page as they are clearly displayed and they go from the top of the contents page to the bottom of the contents page.

Photo Collage: - The majority of the entire left

half of the contents page is fitted with a photo collage of absolutely bizarre images that have little or virtually no contrast to each other the images are placed there on purpose to be different to give the reader a realisation of the actual variety that Mojo magazine does in fact cover for example its rather odd that a gentlemen with a moustache is placed next to a photo of a sad cat. But yet again as Mojo is seen in most peoples eyes to be an indie magazine its not expected to exactly be normal is it.

Contents page features: - The main features of this

mojo contents page is to give the reader an exact insight into what exactly is in this issue of Mojo those that are music related and those that are not. This Mojo issue had 3 particular topics that the magazine covers and these features are highlighted in red. The other main features of the magazine contents page are the collage of photos that are covered throughout the magazine. This gives the reader a taster of what the articles consists of and if one of the photos seems appealing to the reader then below each of the photos it states what article the photo features in this is to try and attract the reader to read something they wouldnt normally by putting an intriguing and interesting photo on the contents page.

Central Visual Interest: - The main central visual interest of

the Mojo magazine contents page is the large photo in the photo collage based in the middle of Alex Turner this is completely expected though as the main feature of this magazine throughout is the Arctic monkeys. The other central visual interest of the page is 2 out of the 3 categories on the contents page that are highlighted in red these tell you the articles that are covered on each page. And this is good because if the central visual interest is drawn to this then it makes the reader want to see what else is in the magazine which will cause them to read the rest of the contents page. I like the Central visual interest of the page and I could imagine myself doing something similar to what mojo have done and display a photo of one of the members of my band on the contents page as it looks respectable and well presented.

Layers: - The amount of layers that are used on

this Mojo contents page is 18 throughout the analysis I have done so far this seems to be roughly around the amount of layers that the majority of music magazines use of their important pages. The banner that is used at the bottom uses up 7 layers because it is detailed but it does look effective and interesting, This lead me to conclude that the amount of layers I will use on my contents page will try to be to a minimum but if I do end up using several layers I need to ensure that it looks similar to the way that Mojo have made their banner look.

Colour pallet: - The colour pallet for the contents page of this Mast head: - The mast head for the Mojo
contents page continues to use the traditional Mojo title font which is a simplistic but effective font. Although the font doesnt carry on with the white colour scheme on the front cover as the magazine background layer on the contents page is white which has resulted in Mojo using a black font which still manages to look good as the majority of the writing on the Mojo contents page is also black. particular Mojo magazine is incredibly basic and continues with the scheme of the colour pallet on the front cover. As it is incredibly basic it only includes two colours of just writing and a third when considering the page numbers. I think this is an incredibly brave thing for Mojo to do because if you make something incredibly basic it can come across as boring to the reader or it can come across as incredibly unique. I am personally unsure at this moment in time as to whether or not I would make a big risk like this in my final design this is why I am going to play around with different colour schemes in my draft copy on photoshop and gather feedback based on this.

Mast Head: - When analysing this double page spread article Double Page Spread: - The way Mojo have
constructed this double page spread is very good there is too much writing but the general construction of the page is okay and the way there is a clear distinction between writing and photos is effective along with the box layer on the left page that explains that the photo is the arctic monkeys life as a band in picture. The one thing Im not too sure on is some of the images in the double page spread dont really fit in and I personally think Mojo should have just stuck with the arctic monkeys images instead of trying to incorporate what else was happening at the time.

on the Arctic monkeys I must admit that I was very disappointed that this complete double page spread didnt contain a mast head whatsoever out of the entire Double page spreads that I have analysed this for me is far by the most disappointing. The only this to described this double page spread is the caption mentioning a quote from the arctic monkeys. This magazine especially the Double page spread featuring the arctic monkeys contains way to much information and in my opinion would bore the type of target audience I am aiming my magazine at, Although this is a stereotype I cannot personally see many really alternative Indie people wanting to read through all this information.

Facing Pages: - I love the way the facing

pages are set out in this Mojo double page spread featuring the arctic monkeys. As it features the Arctic Monkeys the Majority of the photos along the bottom really do coincide well to produce an identity about the band which I really like. I love the way how the bottom half of the pages dont show a divide whatsoever whereas the top half of the pages does in fact show a clear divide. The facing pages feature is seen to be brilliant because it helps the double page spread flow and almost tries to make up for the majority of the page being strenuous reading.

Image Collage: - The image collage thats on the

Colour Pallet: - The colour pallet for this double page

spread has followed the real basic look throughout the magazine and like the contents page only really provides two colours for the fonts and one for the numbers and the numbers relate to the images that in some relation relate to the arctic monkey clearly some are more strongly related than others. I dont like how basic in colour all of the writing is in the top half of my page and I wont be trying to adapt this into my magazine.

double page spread that Mojo have featured the arctic monkeys in shows their lives in pictures it also shows other trends and fashions that were happening around the world when The monkeys were growing up and things that have happened through their life which always provides the reader with an excitement the way the images overlap almost like a time line onto the other page looks really effective and the general fact that there is no white spaces in-between and the fact that the photos at some points do overlap is a good look for the double page spread in my opinion.

Flush Top: - In this double page spread Mojo Central Visual Interest: - The Central Visual interest

for this double page spread cover by Arctic Monkeys is straight to the Quote as directly in the centre of the page there is nothing but writing the readers eyes will instantly go to the Caption and the photography which is good. The reader will almost always look at all of the photos on a page before reading the article anyway which is why Mojo have not really showed a cause for concern by doing this.

have managed to flush all of their writing up to the top and leave all of their images at the bottom. Many magazines do a flush left or a flush right but Mojo are fairly unique with this and thats why I like it. I would definitely considering using this for my magazine but most certainly input less information and text for the audience to read because as Ive earlier said it becomes repetitive with the flush top though it helps the reader associate the text with the picture which can sometimes be a bit of a hassle if the information is not clear

Caption: - The caption for the double page spread

covered by the Arctic Monkeys is good because it gives the reader information straight from the bands mouth and it helps them get a grasp of the band from a personal level which is what many people want when reading music magazines. I like the caption because even though its not short and sweet it still catchy and it still provides the audience with a message on what the band are like together. I am most definitely going to use a caption in my final magazine and my caption is going to contain Taboo in.
