This guide explains how you can enable monitoring for standalone hosts in SAP Solution Manager

HOW-TO GUIDE: MONITORING OF STANDALONE HOSTS

This document describes the steps needed to setup monitoring of stand-alone host. Please remember the prerequisite for Technical Monitor setup is Diagnostic setup, which should be finished prior to Technical Monitor setup. The following steps are necessary which are described in detail in separate chapters 1.) You need to create a technical system of type Unspecific which contains information about the standalone hosts you want to monitor 2.) You need to perform the Managed System Setup for your new technical system. 3.) You perform the System Monitoring Setup for your new technical system 4.) You can review the results in the System Monitoring application 1 CREATE TECHNICAL SYSTEM FOR HOST 1. To create Technical System directly via Technical System Editor, firstly open System Configuration wizard via transaction: SOLMAN_SETUP. And then, select Managed System Configuration -> System Operations ->Create System to launch Technical System Editor. Alternatively, you can use transaction LMDB to open Technical System Editor directly.

2. In Technical System Editor, choose Unspecific Cluster System (UNSPECIFIC) in dropdown list and click Next to continue.

3. In Define System, input the system name and assign others for technology type. The Central Host Name can remain empty. Click Next.

4. Click Save to finish Technical System creation. And then, the Technical System Editor dialogue will pop up, which allows us to define more information about our technical system.

5. In Define Header Data, view the information and ensure it is correct. Click Next to continue.

6. In Assign Database, click Next to skip this step.

7. In Define Technical Instance, click Add and fill out Server Name, Technology Type with Others and Host. After completing, choose Ok and Next.

8. In Maintain assigned Software step, click Add. In pop-up windows, input Solution Manager Standard Custom Product 1.0 as search condition. And then, click Add to complete software component assignment. Finally, click Save to finish Technical System creation. To view the detailed definition click Display Navigation Tree.

9. Select "Installed" button.

10. In navigation tree view, you can evaluate and adjust the definition. If everything is ok, click Save to finish technical system setup.

MANAGED SYSTEM SETUP 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Open the configuration wizard for SAP Solution Manager via transaction: SOLMAN_SETUP Select Managed System Configuration. Select system type of the system we want to configure. Typically, choose Unspecific type. For Unspecific based systems, we need to select the Technical System for configuration. Select Configure System to lunch configuration wizard.

6. In Select Product, click Edit to enter edit mode and ensure statues indicator is green. Click Next to finish.

7. The check prerequisites checks if all requirements for configuring diagnostics are fulfilled on the managed system. Select Execute to automatically perform the check. If there are some errors and warnings, such as Managed System does not meet the Diagnostics prerequisites etc, you can simply ignore. The detailed results can be accessed through the Show link in the log table after selecting the line item for the check. Click Next to jump in the next step. 8. In Assign Diagnostics Agent step, please choose the agent we setup on the managed system and choose Assign to attach the agent to the current Solution Manager.

9. In Enter System Parameters, choose Introscope EM in Enter System Parameters, which SMD agent will collect data from.

10. In Enter landscape Parameter step, click next to skip for host system setup. 11. The last step is to configure system by selecting Execute All. Ensure all the Status indicators are green. In case of red indication, please open Show link to see the detailed message.

SYSTEM MONITORING SETUP 1. Firstly open System Configuration wizard via transaction: SOLMAN_SETUP. And then, select Technical Monitoring to lunch System Monitor setup wizard.

2. Go to Step 5 Define Scope and locate the Technical System you created by filtering, then click Next to enter the next step Setup Monitoring.

3. In Setup Monitoring step, Click Apply and Active -> All managed objects to execute Monitoring setup.

SYSTEM MONITORING APPLICATION 1. Open System Monitor workbench via transaction: SM_WORKCENTER. Choose the System Monitor application and select in the Type Selection Hosts

2. Search for the host you want to monitor, select it and start the Host Monitoring application

3. Here, you get System Monitor for the host.
