CALL FOR PAPERS


The Department of Arts of the European University Cyprus is pleased to host an International Music Education Conference under the theme:

Contemporary Approaches to Teaching Music: Research through Practice


The Organizing Committee is seeking submissions for presentations at this conference. Abstracts are invited from scholars, professionals and graduate students who can contribute to the theme of the conference. Submissions may be in the form of: Papers Workshops Symposia Posters

Keynote Speaker
Dr. Denise Guilbault, Assistant Professor and Music Education Coordinator at Rhode Island College, USA. The conference will address issues regarding contemporary approaches to music teaching for all levels. The aim of the conference is to provide a forum where research involving teaching practices can be discussed and analyzed. These activities seek to articulate the reflection and debate on the following topics: Teaching methodologies for music in the schools Teaching music in early childhood Instrumental pedagogy and studio teaching Music teaching and technology Approaches for teaching band, orchestra and choir Teachers training in music education Curriculum and teaching approaches

Papers Participants have the opportunity to submit an original work related to the theme of the conference, in the form of a research paper or educational experiences. Each presenter will submit an abstract (in Greek or English) of between 250-300 words (.doc , .docx or .pdf). Each paper presentation will be 20 minutes long with an additional 10 minutes for questions and discussion. Workshops Workshops are highly encouraged for this conference, as a means of sharing new ideas on music teaching approaches. Each workshop presenter will submit a 250-300 description of the intended workshop (in Greek or English). Proposals should contain the following elements: objectives of the workshop, content and skills, and target audience. Workshops will be 60 minutes long. Symposia The committee will take proposals on groups made up of at least three participants attending the event. Proposals for panels or symposia should include an overview of the panel or symposium and a summary of each paper. Each panel or symposium should not exceed 2 hours . Posters Proposals for poster sessions should follow the guidelines for the submission of papers. Authors of accepted Posters are required to bring with them a Poster to display during the Conference. Poster specifications (size, format, etc.) will be provided upon acceptance. We particularly encourage graduate students in music to present posters with their thesis and on-going research projects.

Submissions All submissions will be peer-reviewed by members of the Scientific Committee. Materials must be submitted electronically in any standard style format. Include the following information in the body of the electronic mail message: Title of the paper or proposal , name, telephone, , email address and school or professional affiliation. Submit to Y.Miralis@euc.ac.cy or R.Neokleous@euc.ac.cy not later than August 30, 2013. Applicants will be notified of the committees decision via email by September 15, 2013.

Languages The official languages of the conference are English and Greek. Participants can submit their work in any of these languages. Conference sessions will be grouped according to themes and language. Accommodation Hotel accommodation rates range between 60-80 depending on the size of the hotel and location. As we confirm special hotel arrangements, we will communicate information to you including a full list of hotels and rates.
