PRESSURIZATION

1.

GENERAL

There are 2 separate modes of operation for pressurization : 1) AUTO : - with 2 identical independent systems provided for cabin pressure control (AUTO 1 & AUTO 2) - 1 system is selected & the other is prepared to accept control (1 AUTO INOP switch automatically on the other + EICAS msg.) - If both AUTO INOP AUTO INOP light manual control to establish - Auto controllers receive required inputs of cabin pressure, air/ground logic, barometric corrected altitude and thrust levers position. light remains ON 2) MANUAL : - uses DC power from the STBY DC Bus for direct positioning of the outflow valve Positive and negative pressure relief valves are also provided to protect the airplane against excessive pressure differentials

1. TAKEOFF
When the thrust levers are advanced beyond 10, the cabin altitude descends slowly below T/O altitude and permits a smooth pressure transition from ground to flight.

2. CLIMB
Cabin rate prop. to the airplane rate up to 8.6 PSI, then climb schedule based on 8.6 PSI differential pressure reached at approximately 35000 ft. Index = 500 ft/min

3. CRUISE
Cruise mode after 1 minute cruise Cabin altitude = the higher of the landing altitude and the 8.6 PSI differential cabin altitude If climb required, cabin climbs at 1/5 the selected auto rate. If descent required = auto rate setting No changes for altitude changes of 500 ft or less.

4. DESCENT
Index = 300 ft/min After airplane descent of 1000 ft Descent to slightly below the preselected landing altitude (100 ft) or 8.6 PSI diff. Whichever is reached first. - if the preselected altitude is reached first, the cabin maintains that altitude until landing. - if the 8.6 PSI diff is reached first, the cabin follows the 8.6 PSI diff. Descent schedule to the preselected landing altitude.

5. LANDING
Upon touchdown, the controller signals to OPEN the outflow valve After each landing = AUTO-TEST of the alternate controller

CABIN ALTITUDE

(red) : Cabin altitude above 10 000 ft + EICAS msg. (extinguishes when cabin altitude descends below 8500 ft). if cabin climbs above 11.000 ft, valve is closed by an aneroid switch. back to AUTO when the cabin is below 9.500 ft.
