Introduction
Thank you for purchasing your copy of my Valkyrie Air Attack Offensive Mini-Guide. This scheme focuses heavily on spreading the field through the Patriots Shotgun Empty Ace Patriot formation. It revolves around making audibles and presnap adjustments based on safety reads, matchups, unique routes, and effective blitz pick-upall of which, you will learn how to use throughout this guide. Very rarely will you run a play without audibling. I have been using this mini-scheme since the first day of the EA Sports Season Ticket Early Release. It has seen great success including a MS tournament victory and several wins against respectable players. I find that this scheme frustrates my opponents because of its versatility. Though it is solely a passing scheme, it still allows you to control clock because of methodical high percentage reads. However, if you need to be aggressive, there are several options for big play attempts. Once again, I thank you for purchasing this guide, and I highly recommend checking out both Maddenstudents and Maddenmastermind for more Madden 13 content.

*This depth chart is set up so they line up in the most effective spots in the Empty Ace Patriot set. If you plan on running other formations, you will need to do manual formation subs.

Important Pre-Snap Reads

Step 1 - Safeties: The first thing you want to read when you come out on offense is the safeties. Are there two up top? Is there only one? Is there nobody playning deep? This is very important for play calling, as corners will play differently with two safeties deep. Step 2 - Corners and Slot DBs: The next thing you want to is make note of where the corners are. Are they up tight to the outside WRs? Are they backed up? Are there DBs lined up over the slot WRs? Is there a DB lined up over the close WR? All of these reads are key to make sure you are picking the right audible. Step 3 LBs and Potential Blitzers: The last thing you want to look at is linebacker placement. Are they in the box? Are they up close to the line? Which side are they on? Are there DBs on the hips of the ends? Being able to predict where pressure is coming from is HUGE for play calling.

The Setups (Use 5 WR Package):

Base Play: Pats DBL In (Run against 2 deep safeties)

*You will come out in this play every snap. Setup: 1. Read safeties. If there are 2 deep safeties, continue. 2. If corners are pressing, streak both outside WRs. 3. If corners are backed off, slant in the far left WR. 4. Streak right slot WR (second farthest on right). Against two man under, the close WRs route will torch his man. If the corners are backed off, the hitch route on the left should be open for a very quick and easy read. Against zone, you can look for the post route and streaks. Video Link: CLICK HERE

Play Name: Pats X Slant (Man Beater/Blitz Beater)

Setup: 1. Pre-snap Reads. If there are less than two safeties deep or it looks like a blitz, continue. 2. Slant in far right WR. 3. Streak left slot WR. 4. If the corner is pressing, streak the far left WR. If not, slant in or drag far left WR. This play is one of the reasons I started to play with this formation. Since slant outs are hard to come by this year, I decided to try it. Soon enough, I realized that this slant out is deadly against man to man coverage. It will make your opponent think twice about blitzing without a purple zone, while it will also make him respect the crossing routes and deep streaks. Video Link: CLICK HERE

Play Name: Empty Stick Nod (All Purpose Play)

! !

Setup: 1. Pre-snap Reads. If there are less than two safeties deep, continue. 2. Streak right slot WR (second farther WR on right). 3. If the outside corners are pressing, streak both far WRs. 4. If the corners are backed up, slant in the far right WR. This is my second favorite play from this formation. Though it only looks like a slant on the play-art, the route ran by the left slot WR is actually a double move route that torches man coverage. Against zone, the stick nod route will get wide open up the middle because of the slot WRs streak. Against backed up coverage, you can easily hit the curl or the slants for a respectable gain. Play Name: TE Shake (Man/Blitz Beater)

!

Setup: 1. Read safeties. If there are less than two safeties deep, continue. 2. If there are no safeties deep, streak the left slot WR. 3. If the outside left corner is pressing, streak the far left WR. If not, leave him on the quick hitch. 4. Streak the right slot WR (second farthest on the right). 5. Slant in far right WR. This is my favorite play from the scheme, as I find it is the most reliable. The shake route ran by the close WR is extremely effective against man to man. In addition, it is very difficult to user defend. If the corners are backed off, the quick hitch ran by the far left WR is a very high percentage read. Finally, you have 2-3 deep reads to keep the defense honest. Video Link: CLICK HERE

Play Name: Smash Corner (2 Man Under/Zone Beater)

!

Setup: 1. Read safeties. If there are two safeties deep, continue. 2. Streak left slot WR. 3. If corners are pressing, streak left outside WR and slant right outside WR. 4. If the corners are not pressing, drag the far left WR. This play is fantastic against two man under and zone. Against 2 man under, both the right slot WR and close WR will get open. If the corners are backed off, the quick hitch once again is a great read. Against zone, several routes should be open. Video Link: CLICK HERE

Play Name: Pats Clearout (All Purpose)

!

Setup: 1. Locate cornerbacks. See if there are corners lined up over the slot WRs. 2. If corners are not lined up over the slot WRs leave the right slot WR and streak the left slot WR. 3. If the corners are lined up over the slot WRs, slant in the right slot WR (second farthest on right side). 4. Slant in the far left WR. This is play is effective against almost any type of defense. If the corners are not lined up over the WRs, the flat route should be you first read. Otherwise, the out-route is your most reliable read. If hes not open, look to go deep to one of the streak, or the slant as a checkdown. Video Link: CLICK HERE

Bonus Plays: Formation: Shotgun Bunch Play: PA Post Setup: 1. Block HB 2. Streak far left WR. ! The far WR in the bunch will destroy man on this play. In addition, the angled post will get open vs. most types of coverage.
!

!

Setup: 1. Block HB 2. Streak far right WR This play was one of my favorite plays in NCAA 13 and it translated over to Madden 13. The angled route by the TE will destroy man the majority of the time. The corner route ran by the slot WR is also a very effective man beating option. Finally you have two deep other deep reads in the post and the streak. Video Link: CLICK HERE

Formation: Shotgun Ace Play: Pats TE Attack Setup: -None This play is fantastic against all coverage types. The two comeback routes will beat man and any type of zone without purple zones. The double move route can be pass lead at two points in the routewhen he breaks to the left pass lead to the left, or when he cuts back pass lead to the right. Finally, you have a deep threat in the streak and a checkdown in the blue route. Video Link: CLICK HERE Formation: Shotgun Split Patriot Play: Pats HB Blast Setup: 1. Pinch line 2. Motion FB to the left guard and snap. I dont like to run the ball in Madden 13. However, this run I find to be extremely effective, as you can take it up the middle or quickly cut it outside to the left. The read has to be quick. !

Conclusion
Though this mini-guide is for teaching you a particular offense, the intent is also for you to get better. Hopefully after looking through it, you have a better idea of what to look for in play selection, routes, as well as what to look for pre-snap. In addition, make sure you take this scheme into practice mode before you start playing online in order to get the hang of the reads and adjustments. I hope that you see success!
