02. Whats NEW IN GATE 2015 1. Examinations for all the 22 Subjects will be conducted by an ONLINE Computer Based Test (CBT). The online examination paper will contain some questions for which numerical answers must be keyed in by the
Page 1

candidate using the virtual keypad. Rest of the questions shall be of Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type. 2. Numerical Answer Type Questions: The question paper for GATE 2015 will consist of questions of both multiple-choice type and numerical answer type. For multiple choice type questions candidates have to choose the answer from the given choices. Numerical answer type questions are not multiple-choice type; the candidates have to enter a number as the answer using a virtual keypad. 3. GATE 2015 like GATE 2014 examinations is supposed to hold during forenoon and afternoon sessions on alternate weekends (Saturday and Sunday) between 1st weeks of February to March. Examination for some of the papers will be held in multiple sessions. 4. So for MOUs have been signed by Following Companies (PSU) for recruiting the Candidate based on their GATE score. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., National Fertilizers Ltd., Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd., NHPC Ltd., NTPC Ltd., Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd., Vizag Steel Plant, GAIL (INDIA) Limited, Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd. Many more PSUs are also signing the MOUs. They are also supposed to recruit based on the GATE Score, as per our estimates more than 10000 vacancies will be filled through GATE in all these PSUs for Year 2015. (For ME, EE, EC, CE, CH, CS/IT). The Best Part in Working PSU is huge salary i.e. 10 lakh ctc per year (approx.) and Job Security. 5. The Trend for M. Tech from IITs & NITs is also changing more and more companies are hiring Post Graduates for their R&D works so apart

04. Plan Yourself for GATE 2015 GATE is conducted by 7 IITs and IISc Banglore. Following things are expected. As we all know that GATE is based on our engineering syllabus still there is remarkable difference in study pattern between our Semester examination and GATE preparation, Semester pattern mainly focuses on recalling the things in stipulated time so same approach cannot be used for GATE preparation, it is suggested to focus on the following things as given below: Design of Questions The questions in a paper may be designed to test the following abilities: (i) Recall: These are based on facts, principles, formulae or laws of the discipline of the paper. The candidate is expected to be able to obtain the answer either from his/her memory of the subject or at most from a one-line computation. (ii) Comprehension: These questions will test the candidate's understanding of the basics of his/her field, by requiring him/her to draw simple conclusions from fundamental ideas. (iii) Application: In these questions, the candidate is expected to apply his/her knowledge either through computation or by logical reasoning. (iv) Analysis and Synthesis: In these questions, the candidate is presented with data, diagrams, images etc. that require analysis before a question can be answered. A Synthesis question might require the candidate to compare two or more pieces of information. Questions in this category could, for example, involve candidates in recognizing unstated assumptions, or separating useful information from irrelevant information.

To summaries Student must focus on clearing all the basic concept of the subjects then practicing the applicative part of the Subjects. So based on this approach TGW recommend joining the Coaching with The HAT KE Approach provided at all TGW centers.

05. Steps of Planning

First Collect the standard reference as already mentioned in the above Table, then have the Gate Practice/Assignment Book (like TGW GATE Study Material) with Last 20 Previous year Gate Solved Papers. 1. Now plan the Subject wise Preparation, For Preparation of Aptitude and General English Module (TGWGE101) which will require very less efforts as compared to your technical subject as the question which are being asked so for are comparatively easy so study the basic things like Numerical ability, time, Distance, Work, Ratio & Proportion, Interest, etc based on any standard Aptitude books. For General English on which 4 marks will be asked please reading the daily newspapers and finding the difficult word will be the best task to score in synonym & antonym section and then for Grammar/ Composition referring to Wren & Martin will solve your basic purpose. Remember that this is the one of the scoring section in GATE just simply practicing the lot of aptitude question of previous years and TGW Practice books you can easily score 12-15 marks/15 marks ion GATE. * A preparation of 15-20 days in enough for this section. 2. For Preparation on Engineering Mathematics which we have already learned in our 1st and 2nd year of engineering so revisiting all
Page 8

the basic thing we learned through any standard textbook will help us, start reading and understanding all the concept explained in the books, a good practice is to make a standard formula books in which we should write all the formulas/ shortcut that we are reading in the books so that it will be available with us for our ready reference and always remember to read the formula book before giving any practice exam. Once the preliminary preparation is over for Maths the key to get success in GATE Maths is solving Last 20 years GATE and IES question, all the solutions should be available with us. See how much you can attempt with the knowledge you gained so for. Normally if we practiced 100 questions per topic i.e. almost more than 800 question and if we can solve any of the questions afterwards out of these 800 questions then assuring you that more 80% marks can be easily scored in technical question. A typical preparation For Maths will take 30 days 45 Days, including giving the online test series on Maths. 3. For Technical Subject: Make proper time table for preparation. Yes, make a plan or draw it on sample rough paper, for how to prepare for the GATE Examination. In this field, you have to consider your total no of subject to study, the time left for the exam and time for revision with online practice test. As we have divided technical section of each branch into 8 no. of Subjects which will carry 70% of the weightage in GATE examination. Identify the maximum weightage subject like for ME reading SOM, Design and TOM will be giving you a preparation of 25% of Gate so start planning for high weightage subjects. Allot almost 20 Days to 30 Days for each Subjects preparation. So that within 5- 6 Months you can finish up with the preparation.

Page 9

If you are doing the Coaching for Gate it is always best to plan the preparation as per the schedule of the Coaching class. By the month of NOV-14 you should be finished with your preparation of all the subjects. Once the preparation over is you should give the Subject-wise online test with revision in 1 months span. In the month of Dec to Jan 15 your complete focus should be on giving the GATE Mock test and see the standing/Ranking in all India level, A minimum of 5 Online Mock test is suggested after giving each Mock make it a practice to analyze the paper, where we have done the mistakes try to overcome the mistakes next time the same problem arrives. There should be a consistency in our performance and Scoring should increase with each test. If you fulfill these things you will definitely get a good rank In GATE.

07. Tips to Crack GATE Follow standard books, stress on understanding things than memorizing them. Solve objective type (especially numerical) questions as much as possible. Keep preparing your personal notes as you cover topics. Do not practice questions in rough. You may need to see the solutions at the time of revision. Go through previous year papers (say last 20 years) to check your knowledge and note the distribution of different topics. Revision is one of the most important step of the preparation process (around 20 days before examination). Follow your notes during this time and solve time-bound question papers (preferably last year papers). Do not make any guesses in the paper. If possible, try to eliminate the choices by minimum calculation/analysis. Even you find the paper tough, DO NOT panic. It'll be hard for everyone.

06. Qualifying Marks IN GATE A marks around 25 (General Category) will be considered as a qualifying marks for GATE so that you will gate a GATE scorecard. And scoring of 55-65 will definitely get a good percentile and Rank in a Gate so one must always Aim for 60 marks out of 100 in GATE. All the Best The GATE Way Team
