AEM Monitors and AEM Monopolar Laparoscopic Instruments
Encisions ACTIVE ELECTRODE MONITORING system is a laparoscopic safety system that continuously monitors Encisions monopolar laparoscopic instruments during surgery to eliminate the risk of stray energy burn injury to patients during laparoscopy. The modular AEM Laparoscopic Instruments incorporate a proprietary shielded and monitored design that provides a neutral return path for capacitively coupled energy and protection from insulation failure. If stray electrosurgical energy is detected, the AEM Monitor interrupts the power, alerts the surgeon and OR staff and AEM Monopolar protects the patient from electrosurgical burn injury. The AEM laparoscopic instrument line includes all of the standard shapes, sizes and functionality of conventional instruments but with the patented AEM technology integrated into the design. This safety system includes AEM Monitors, reusable and disposable modular instruments, reusable and disposable Fixed-Tip Electrodes, and reposable Suction-Irrigation Electrodes.

AEM Monitors
The AEM laparoscopic safety system consists of two primary components: AEM Monitor and AEM Laparoscopic Instruments. The monitor is attached to the electrosurgical generator (ESU) and to the AEM Laparoscopic Instrument. ACTIVE ELECTRODE MONITORING is intended for use only with ESUs incorporating Contact Quality Monitoring (CQM) and with a dual pad-type return electrode.
PRODUCT HIGhLIGhTS
AEM Monitors are compatible with most commonly used ESUs. An AEM Monitor must be used in order to operate with AEM monopolar laparoscopic instruments. Monitor feet are spaced to t securely on most OR equipment carts. Recesses are provided on the top of monitor so most compatible ESUs may be placed securely on top. AEM Cord Adapters allow for fast, easy connection of monitor to ESU. Monitors can accommodate both Encision monopolar and bipolar instruments. Monitors can accommodate both Encision handswitching and footswitching instruments. May require additional AEM Cord Adapters for use with some ESUs.

1 Ensure AEM Monitor and ESU Compatibility.

An AEM Monitor must be used in order to operate AEM monopolar laparoscopic instruments.
2 Select a Reusable Handle Style and a Shaft Length

Select a handle style, either the ES8000 or the ES8200 Series enTouch Handles. For a standard shaft length of 35cm, no sufx is added to the catalog number. For a shaft length of 45cm, the sufx L is added to the catalog number. For example, ES8000L. For the hooded handle with a standard shaft length of 35cm, the sufx H is added to the catalog number. For example, ES8000H. For the hooded handle style with a shaft length of 45cm, the sufx HL is added to the catalog number. For example, ES8000HL. The hooded handles are CE Marked for distribution in the EU and Australia only.
3 Select a Reusable Insert Style and a Shaft Length for the Reusable Insert
Select a reusable insert style from the list of reusable graspers, dissectors, scissors, biopsy punches or spoons. For example, ES0013 Bullet Nose Grasper. The ES8000 Series is a reusable 90 angulated handle and is the preferred handle for use with scissors inserts.
The ES8200 Series is a reusable 90 angulated handle that has an indexing (12 positions/ revolution) and locking rotation knob that allows the surgeon to maintain a rm grip on the instrument. The shaft and the rotation knob lock in rotational position when trigger is squeezed.

AEM Disposable Electrodes
The AEM Disposable Electrodes consist of the AEM Disposable Handswitching Handpiece with Rocker Switch and an integral cord and separate disposable electrodes that can be assembled in the sterile eld. AEM Disposable Electrodes are intended for ablation, removal, resection, and coagulation of soft tissue where associated hemostasis is required in open, endoscopic, and laparoscopic surgical procedures.

AEM Disposable Electrodes must be used in conjunction with an AEM Monitor and a Universal Adapter (ES9015). AEM Disposable Electrodes are modular, single use devices. Instruments must be used in conjunction with an AEM Monitor. Reposable SIEs are reusable for up to 10 sterilization and use cycles. Modular SIEs consist of an electrode, trumpet valve or irrigation valve adapter, and a reusable sheath. SIEs can be used with a reusable or disposable AEM Cord. Electrodes can be interchanged in the sterile eld. A Reposable Sheath for SIEs is included with initial order and can be ordered as a replacement part only. Electrodes available in 35cm length only.

TRIGGER REpLACEMENT:
Replace Trigger Trigger is removed and a new trigger, spring and discs are installed.
INSULATION DAMAGE:
Replace Heat Shrink Involves removing the rotation knob, front seal and tube assembly. Heat Shrink Insulation is reapplied and handle is reassembled including the use of a new front seal.
TUBE ASSEMBLY DAMAGE:

Replace Tube Assembly and Heat Shrink Involves removing the rotation knob, front seal and tube assembly. Tube assembly is replaced and a new piece of Heat Shrink Insulation is applied. Handle is reassembled including the use of a new front seal.

Select the handle assembly series, either the BP7200L Modular Bipolar Handle with Lock or the BP7500 PowerGrip Handle, 2-Pin.
2 Select Instrument Tube or PowerGrip Shaft and Length

Add the BP7250 Bipolar Instrument Tube or the BP7550 PowerGrip Shaft in the 34cm/35cm or 45cm length depending on the respective handle series. For a shaft length of 45cm for either the Bipolar Instrument Tube or the PowerGrip Shaft, the sufx -45 is added to the catalog number, so the catalog number would become, ex: BP7550-45.
3 Select a Reusable Bipolar Insert Style and a Shaft Length for the Insert

PowerGrip bipolar laparoscopic instruments facilitate precise dissecting, grasping, cutting and coagulation. The PowerGrip bipolar handles and inserts are reusable. Jaw mechanism enables adjustable opening and closing of the jaws with very high pressure while grasping and cutting. Smooth handle operation provides for an optimal tactile feel and mechanical advantage. Instrument jaws are insulated to the end of the grasping and cutting zone in order to avoid unintentional coagulation. Rotation knob allows electrode insert to be rotated up to 360 with the forenger. Electrode inserts can be interchanged in the sterile eld. Modular instruments facilitate ease of assembly and cleaning. Bipolar instrument cord connection is integral to handle and standardized to prevent improper connections and to eliminate the purchase of additional custom cables.
