It can be calculated through two known points and the original coordinates of them in the Control Point Library. The four parameters are X translate, Y translate, circumrotate angle and scale. You can also calculate the four parameters by using correction wizard to adjust at least two known points. The four parameter calculates by these two means are the same. The calculation of Four Parameter refers to: ToolCalculate ParameterCalculate Four Seven Parameter Set Seven Parameter is the Closure Parameter between two ellipsoids, it includes three translate parameter, three rotating parameter and one scale gene. It needs three known points and their geoids coordinates to calculate. The detailed steps are: ToolCalculate ParameterCalculate Seven.

Figure 4-6 Four Parameter Set

Figure 4-7 Seven Parameter Set

Alt Closure Parameter Set The parameter includes six parameters, in the control point library mode, you need three or more than three known points and their original coordinates to calculate the closure parameter to do plane closure, and you need six or more than six points with their original coordinates to calculate the closure parameter to do arc surface closure. Adjustment Parameter When you use the control point library, if you only type in one known point and its original coordinate, the parameter you acquired is the adjustment parameter. You can also obtain the adjustment parameter by use of one known point to adjust. The result obtained by these two methods is the same.

4.2 Control Point Library

The control point library is used to calculate the adjustment parameter. It is very convenient to edit and view the adjusting point, and to examine the accuracy after adjustment. Here is the detailed process: We use the two known points, Point A and Point B, to calculate the adjustment parameter, firstly we must note down the original coordinate of these two points, which are obtained by the rover in the fixed state without any adjustment parameter. Input the known coordinate of Point A in the control point library, and then enter the original coordinate of Point A according to the prompt. The adjustment parameter will be calculated (*.cot) after entering the known coordinate and original coordinate of Point B.

Figure 4-13 The paths of adding a point

Figure 4-14 Add the original coordinates of points Engineering Star Users Manual 28

Chapter IV Set There are four paths to input the original coordinates (see Figure 4-13): First, add the coordinates from coordinates library (see Figure 4-14), Second, Read the coordinates of the current point (to note an original coordinates when doing leveling and save it in the dialog), Third, Read the coordinates of base station (to read the original coordinates when the base station is on the known point), Fourth, Input the geography coordinates. We recommend the first path. Note: In general, plate transform needs at least two points, and the alt transform needs at least three points. If one level point has no plate coordinates, you need to collect this point first and change the alt to the known alt when folding the region coordinates of this point. Before saving the file, youd better check whether the plate accuracy and alt accuracy meet the requirement.

4.4 Rover Set

Process: SetRover Set Note: Set the format of receiving data of rover, click downwards button to select the consistent data format with the base station. The level of the accuracy of calculation can be shifted between high and common, this subject to the surveying surroundings and the requirement of the surveying accuracy. In usual, we select high level, whereas, we can also select the common level in case that the work environment, such as the forest or bush is not so strong, is not so fine and the requirement for the surveying accuracy is not so high. Thus the fixed speed will be faster.

4.5.1 Save Set

There are four types of Points Save: General Save: Directly save the coordinate of point digit at certain time. (The coordinate of point digit is updated per second) Smooth Save: Obtain the average value after times of measurement of each point. Auto Save: Save the point automatically according to the pre-setting term. (Save by time or by distance).
Engineering Star Users Manual 33

Chapter IV Set Excursion Save: Supposed we now measure Point A, but it is impossible or inconvenient to do for some reasons such as in the house or under the veil. In this occasion, we may use this function. Firstly, we measure Point B that is measurable, then we obtain the azimuth, the distance and the vertical difference between Point A and Point B. Thus we can obtain the coordinate of Point A through Excursion Save. Select Excursion Save in the Set Save Type menu, click the button-- or , you will see the screen to input excursion value.

Figure 4-24 Excursion Save

4.5.2 Satellite Limit

For the refraction, which arises in the process of the satellite signal of low height angle penetrating the Flayer and troposphere, is great and the multi-way effect. The signal of the low height angle generates diffracting effect when being received. We have to select the appropriate satellites, Engineering Star Software provide this function to meet this demand by masking the satellite of low height angle. See Figure 4-25 that shows the tag to input 10o as the mask angle, thus the satellite below 10o will be screened from adopted.

4.6 Receiver Set

Figure 4-27 Receiver Set

Process: SetReceiver Set Note: There is Kinematic State and Static State to select, the former has the base set, and the latter carries out static collection function. You can use notebook to reset the base of RTK by using single point orientation or manual inputting coordinate. Base parameter, such as the difference format and interval amend, can be revised synchronously. When you use static function, you can adopt the Static State in the Receiver Set Menu to set the Static Collection Parameter, such as the file name, antenna height, collection interval and the parameter of mask angle to do the dual frequency static collection.

4.6.1 Kinematic State

Process: Enter Receiver Set, you will see the screen as Figure 4-28, select the Kinematic State, click OK to enter the next step.

Engineering Star Users Manual

36

Chapter IV Set

Figure 4-28 Kinematic State

You can use two ways, which are single point orientation coordinate and manual inputting coordinate, to set the base station. The single point orientation coordinate is the usual way, which is much like the RTK with automatic base station set, such as the mainframe of 9800. The manual set function is usually used in the following situation: (1) The standard coordinate of the datum point is known. (2)The transferred coordinate is known. (3) Transferring Parameter is known, such as base station reset. Do not set the unknown coordinate as the base station when you do now know the coordinate of known points. This will make the base station not work as usual, neither do the projecting difference. 1. Single Point Orientation Coordinate Click the tag Auto run the base parameter set, enter the next step. This function can make the instrument automatically collect the single point orientation coordinate and set this coordinate as base station. We also need to set such parameters as projection interval, difference data format, Satellite Mask Angel and PDOP, etc, to improve the satellite condition for the base station start. The base station can only enter the normal projection difference program after you finish all the parameters set, click OK to end this step. If you see the message Auto set finished, it means the set is finished. In usual case, check whether the radio works according to the set projection interval, then use the PDA with the rover station. 2. Manual Inputting Coordinate Select Set the base station by inputting coordinates to enter next step. In this interface, you can input the base station coordinate by two means: inputting with geography coordinates and inputting with plane coordinates. Swift the inputting way according to the instruction on top of the screen Note: The message Reset the station next time? in the bottom of the screen only work on
Engineering Star Users Manual 37

Chapter IV Set Smart S80. It is used to set the projection means of base station, thus you can continue the former set when you switch on the station without the PDA. This is convenient to the base station operation, but if you move the station or change the antenna height, you need to modify the parameter by using PDA. Generally, you are not recommended to click this toggle, please operate according to the instruction.

4.6.2 Static State

Steps: Enter Instrument Set, select Static State, click OK to enter the next step (see figure 4-29).

Figure 4-29 Static State

Figure 4-30Static Collection Set

Static State is one function of the RTK instrument (see figure 4-30). You can set the static collection parameter such as File Name, Antenna Height, Collection Interval and Mask Angle etc. Click OK to finish this step; you can only type 4 characters or numbers in the name field. The unit for antenna height is meter, second to collection interval and degree to mask

Chapter IV Set angle. Note: This function can only work to S80 The collected data is saved in mainframe; you can use South Receiver Data Download software to connect the receiver for transferring and transaction after. Note: South Receiver Data Download is in the GPS data transaction software, you can go to http://www.southsurvey.com to download.

4.7 Radio Set

Note: This function is only designed for Smart S80. Process: SetRadio Set, see Figure 4-31 Note: You can read the data or switch the radio channel from RTK. The operation to base station reacts on the outside radio, and the operation to the rover reacts on the inside radio.

Channel number

Figure 4-31 Radio Set

Figure 4-32 Read and switch the channel Engineering Star Users Manual 39

Chapter IV Set Enter the menu, you will see the interface like Figure 4-32. Select Read to display the current radio channel, see Figure 4-32 Select Switch to reset the designed channel, you will see the message switch the channel. Select Auto Research to enter the Auto Rover Set state, in which the receiver can auto set the rover state, thus the buzzer will call to indicate channel switch in case the main frame loses the signal during the work. When you finish the channel set, the interface will display the channel number in front of the signal state of antenna. Note: The range of channel is from one to four, if the number of base station is over four in certain region, you need to set the frequency point to the channel to ensure that all the base station work normally.

4.8 Connect Receiver

Steps: SetConnect Receiver. The connection is between PDA and mainframe, in usual case, the recommended way is Blue tooth connection. Input 2 in the port field if the Blue tooth module is golden style (the port is used for the connection between PDA and mainframe). Port 4 and port 5 should be selected if you use other kinds of Bluetooth. You can refer to the instruction in Figure 4-33. If you connect with cable, you should select port 1.

Select SurveyObject Survey, you may start measurement when the state is FIXED (see Figure 5-5), press button to save current coordinate (the coordinate will be saved in the new file). The default point name is point (alterable), input the antenna height, see Fig 5-6. The position symbol is displayed in two ways, when the antenna is still or moving within 2cm, it will display as roundness, when the antenna is moving, it will display as a triangle the direction of the acute angle is the moving direction. The point name will auto add up in the storage process, you can also change the point name. We can see in the screen, the height here is that of the

antenna phase core. After the point is stored in the coordinate library, reopen the library and

5.1.1 Save Set Type

There are four types of Points Save: General Save: Directly save the coordinate of point digit at certain time. (The coordinate of point digit is updated per second) Smooth Save: Obtain the average value after times of measurement of each point. Auto Save: Save the point automatically according to the pre-setting term. (Save by time or by distance). Excursion Save: Supposed we now measure Point A, but it is impossible or inconvenient to do for some reasons such as in the house or under the veil. In this occasion, we may use this function. Firstly, we measure Point B that is measurable, then we obtain the azimuth, the distance and the vertical difference between Point A and Point B. Thus we can obtain the coordinate of Point A through Excursion Save. Select Excursion Save in the Save Set Type, click the button-- or , you will see the screen to input excursion value.

Projection Option: You can see the ellipsoid and projection parameter which are set when you create a new job. You can go to the measurement parameter under the set menu to amend the value. Transferring Option: It includes two parts: adjustment parameter and four parameters. Four Parameters is used to swift between different coordinates systems, calculated with the original coordinate of at least two known points. The four parameters are X translate, Y translate, circumrotate and scale. You can also calculate the four parameters by using wizard to adjust at least two known points. The four parameter calculated by the two means are both the same.

Adjust Parameter: When you use control point library, input only one point and its coordinate, the parameter calculated is adjust parameter. You can also calculate the same adjust parameter by using wizard. Closure Option: They are the six parameter of alt closure. When you use reference points coordinates house, input at least three known points and their coordinates to calculate the alt closure parameter. Seven Parameters: This is the closure parameter between two ellipsoids, including three plane translate parameters, three rotate parameters and one scale gene. It needs three known points and their geoid coordinates to calculate. The detailed calculation may refer to the introduction of the measurement parameter under the set menu.

5.2 Auto Save

Steps: SurveyAuto Save This function can auto log the coordinates according to the set condition You can set logging condition from set other set save set, (see Figure 5-19).There are two different save types: Time and Distance. CL marks assuasive curve: it is defined by the curve length and K gene, the formula of K gene is as follows:

A R L
A means K gene R means the semi diameter of the curve L means the length of assuasive curve Note: assuasive curve must meet one arc in both ends, the first one is the length of the assuasive curve and the second is the K gene. CC marks arcs to define the arc length and the semi diameter, negative means left curve. The first is arc length, and the second is semi diameter. Note: the minus and plus value of semi diameter only stand for the direction. Plus is the right side of the road direction, and the minus means the left side of the road direction.

If the survey area is large (more than 50Km), you can use Seven Parameter to acquire more accurate Seven parameter translate coordinates. It needs three known points region coordinates and their WGS-84 coordinates to calculate seven parameters, which are the seven translate parameter of the region coordinates transformed from WGS-84 coordinates. Click OK to type in the dialog of seven parameters. Note: Youd better make the area of three points cover the whole survey area to acquire preferable effect.
Known point Unknown point

Figure 6-6 Three known points and survey area map

The format of seven parameter: X translate, Y translate Z translate X axis rotate, Y axis rotate, Z axis rotate, Zoom scale (Scale Ratio). Principle: As you know, the RTK survey used with translate parameter can make the plane coordinates of survey point, height accuracy and control net cooperate very well in small area (such as tens of sqkm) and you only need two or more than two region coordinates. But when you do the survey in a large area (such as hundreds of sqkm), the translate parameter cannot improve the accuracy of plane and height within parts of area. Thus you need to use seven
Engineering Star Users Manual 102

Chapter VI Tool parameter, the detailed operation is as follows: First, you need to do the control survey and level survey, and do the static control on the control point of the known coordinates within the area, then select a control point A as the WGS84 reference station of static net adjustment before you start the net adjustment. Use a static instrument to do the single point survey on Point A for more than 24 hours, and then import it into the software to note down the average as its WGS84 coordinates. For having done the long time survey, the absolute accuracy should be about 2m, then start the 3D adjustment, which needs to take WGS84 coordinates as known coordinates. Calculate the 3D coordinates of other points, but at least three groups, then you can acquire the seven parameters after inputting. When you use seven parameters, open it and close translate parameter (if it is opened). Note: the unit of translate parameter is meter, the unit of circumrotate is second, and that of zoom is the difference from number 1. After you finish this, you can start the detailing or layout road. The base station should be mounted on the known point according to handy principle, if the known point has been used in seven parameter calculation, the accuracy control will be better. You can also use the WGS84 longitude and latitude of this point to set the base station. Note: Seven parameter has reference limit, XYZ axis rotate are generally second level, X YZ axis translate are usually less than 1000If the seven parameters are not within this area, it will not work.. Steps: you can directly input the region coordinates of three known points and their WGS-84 coordinates, or open the point file to select three points. Click Ok on the upper right to acquire the seven parameters.

Figure 6-7 The acquired seven parameter

After you acquire the seven parameter, system will auto open the parameter switch, click OK to adjust by this parameter and acquire the correct coordinates of the survey point. If you calculate without inputting points, the prompt in figure 6-5 will display.
Engineering Star Users Manual 103

Chapter VI Tool Note: The concept of three parameter is generated from seven parameter, if do not calculate all axis rotate and scale for seven parameter, you only need translate parameter which is mostly used in the small area and low-rise area.

Addenda A GPS Survey Summarization

GPS System Brief Introduction
The Composition of GPS System GPS, the worldwide, all-day running, high accuracy survey way, has been universally accepted in survey field. Date to the year 1973, American Department of Defense authorized Three Armies to invent a new military navigation system, we call it GPS, which is Global Position System. In February of 1978, the first testing satellite was launched, from the February of 1989 to 1993, 24 satellites were launched, which established the foundation of GPS running constellation. The running height of GPS satellite is 20200 kilometers. There are six orbits, on each dispersing four satellites. The structure contains 21 work satellites and three standby active satellites. The satellite serial is from 0 to 31, and numberless substitute satellites will be continuously launched when valid period of the old one expires to maintain the GPS constellation steady

Figure 1-1 GPS star graph

There are three elements to make up GPS System. The first is Satellite element, which is constituted by the constellation in the universe. The second is the control part on the earth, which is used to control the satellite signal, correct the satellite state, adjust the distribution of the satellite and revise the orbit information. The third is customer detector, which also named GPS instrument. GPS signal: Satellite Guide Telephonic Code, including Broadcast Star Calendar and Almanac. Satellite State: range code, including (1) C/A codecoarse code Code Length: 1023bitCycle: 1msDistance: 293km (2) P CodeFine Code Code Length: 2.35*1014Cycle: 267 daysDistance: 29.3m All the code will be loaded on the carrier wave to project after process. There are two carrier
Engineering Star Users Manual 134

Appendix waves, one is L1 wave band, with the frequency 1545.42MHZ and wavelength 19.05cmthe other is L2 wave band, with the frequency 1227.60MHZ and wavelength 24.45cm GPS Detector can be sorted to four styles according to the function; they are Guide Style, Survey Style, Time Style and survey gesture style. It can also be sorted to four styles according to moving state, they are Handheld Style, motor-carried style, vessel-carried style and plane-carried style. The survey geoid style has two styles, one is single frequency, which can only receive L1 carrier wave, and the other is dual frequency, which can contemporarily receive L1 & L2 carrier waves. Military navigation was designed for the GPS System Establishment, but the testing result showed that not only can it meet the military use, it can also be used in static position in centimeter or even millimeter accuracy, dynamic position in sub-meter or meter accuracy, speed measurement and time measurement. Thus GPS was generally adapted from military use to daily use, thus the first commercial GPS receiver was born. With the development of over ten years, more and more GPS have been used in various units and enterprises to create plenty production value of high efficiency. GPS position and phase measurement. GPS position is acquired by backside cross method after measuring the off-ground distance of each visible satellite. The distance of satellite from ground is calculated by the C/A code on the carrier wave or phase. Thus the time difference will happen from the projection of information code to the satellite receiving by the GPS antenna. The note for the time difference makes the survey realizable. Multiply the time and the velocity of light to acquire the distance from antenna to the ground. Survey-style GPS receiver can calculate the accurate distance from antenna to the ground by carrier wave phase. Add the number of full waves of each satellite to the phase decimal, you can acquire the distance of the satellite off ground (The wave length of L1 and L2 is known),. The integer of carrier wave between satellite and antenna is called full circle blur degree ambiguity. To the centimeter accurate process, full circle number can be acquired in the course of process. To the centimeter accurate real time survey, full circle number can be acquired in the mean time of initialization. The minimal amount required for the satellites is four, and for the GPS receiver is two in GPS survey. This manual is based on two receivers, one is base station, and the other is rover. Set the base station on one known point, and the rover on the point to be measured or staked out. The carrier wave phase data on these two receivers is calculated by the software embed in the mainframe board, then the 3D vector between base station and rover can be acquired. You can measure the position of rover relative to the base station, and then classify the measure technique according to the time. Real time technique uses the radio to transfer the information to the rover, and calculate the result in the mean time of surveying. Process technique needs to save the data and acquires the result with the base line calculation software back to the office.
Engineering Star Users Manual 135

Appendix Generally, the measure technique is subjected to such elements as receiver standard, accuracy requirement, time limit and real time result requirement, etc.

GPS Measurement Method

GPS and difference technique are used in real time and measurement after, speed static technique is only used in measurement after. Real time kinematics (RTK) RTK usually need five or more than five satellite to measure the phase of base station and rover. It is necessary to initialize before measuring in order to acquire centimeter accuracy. If you use single frequent receiver, the early sub-kinematics required the rover to be placed on the known point to create a man-made base line to initialize the measurement. Now the single frequent RTK can realize auto initialization, only the time is longer compared with the dual frequent RTK, and more easy to miss lock. If you use dual frequent receiver to do the kinematic measurement (that is RTK), the initialization time can be greatly shorten, whats more, the initialization can be processed during movement, (that is OTF, which means On the Fly) If the satellites received are less than four during the measurement, you need to reinitialize when the satellite number increases to four or more than four. Difference Globe Position SystemDGPS DGPS technique uses GPS codeC/A codeto position. It is not necessary to initialize or continuously track the satellites. The measurement accuracy is only one to three meter. If the carrier wave added to the distance is smooth enough, the DGPS can reach to the sub-meter accuracy. Static and quick static Static measurement can be used in the highest accuracy measurement, but the time needed is usually from 30 minutes to 15 hours, according to the length of the line. Static and Quick Static both need process after to acquire the accurate result. Quick static is one method of process after, the accuracy can reach to centimeter level. It takes at Least 8 minutes (normally 8-30 minutes) to measure by carrier wave measurement, according to The receiver type, base line length, available satellites units and geometry shape of satellite. You can use single frequent and dual frequent receiver to do the static measurement and the quick Static measurement

The elements related to the RTK measurement.

RTK measurement needs to avoid some disadvantageous elements; the reason to generate these
Engineering Star Users Manual 136

Appendix elements is for the limit of the whole GPS system. The radio signal used by GPS is received from the satellite about twenty thousand kilometers from The ground, they are, relatively speaking, high frequency, low power, and not easy to penetrate the barriers which interfere the sight between the satellite and the GPS receiver. In fact, all the objects between the satellite and GPS receiver are the disadvantages to the system operation. Some objects, such as buildings, can entirely screen the satellite signal. Thus GPS cannot be used in rooms, channel or under water. Some other objects, such as tree, may partly screen the reflected or refracted signal. Thus GPS signal can hardly be received in the forest area, although sometimes there will be enough signal in the forest to approximately calculate the position, the definition of signal is far from the centimeter level position. So GPS has shortage when used in forest area, but this doesnt mean GPS can only be used in the relevant open side, it can still maintain its efficiency and accuracy in some impediment area. That is because GPS needs at least five satellites which distribute appropriately to realize the accurate position, in usual occasion, there will be seven to ten GPS satellite in most area, thus the GPS measurement can be used efficiently in the area where you can receive five satellites. In the forest or around a building, you can make the GPS measurement as long s the open side is big enough to view at least five satellites. Another disadvantages is the RTK transferring data chain, this chain has close relationship with the electromagnetism surrounding and operation distance. RTK position require the base station transfer the measuring data, which includes fake measured value and phase measured value, and known data to the rover station in real time. The power of RTK station is 25 watt, so the barrier is now allowed between base station and rover. According to the rule, the relationship of operation distance of RTK and the base station height is as below: Height (m) >30 20 10 2 Typical distanceKm 9~11 7~9 5~7 3~5 Ideal distance (km) 10~12 8~10 6~8 4~6

Note Typical distance is that in normal electromagnetism condition. Ideal distance is that in fine satellite, atmosphere and electromagnetism condition. Concerning the elements mention hereinbefore, it is required to select the preferable known point position when setting the base station. Please make sure the base station meet the condition below: 1. There is not any barrier within 10 degree height end angle. 2. There should not be electromagnetic radiant point in the neighborhood, such as TV launch
Engineering Star Users Manual 137

Appendix tower, radar TV and mobile signal antenna, etc, in order to avoid disturbing the RTK signal. The distance required is more than 200m 3. Youd better set the base station at the relatively high altitude place for the better station operation distance. 4. steady ground to save the point more convenient. Note: If the user sets the station under the objects that have strong effect to the electromagnetism transmission, such as under the tree, the satellite signal received will become aberrant.

GPS Application in the Measurement

GPS can be used to control measurement, landform measurement, staking out and aquatic operation. Controlling measurement The area of controlling measurement is commonly large. Landform measurement Landform measurement is used to measure the change of landform, the result is usually used for Graph making. Real-time measurement, especially the dual frequent RTK, is most suitable to the landform measurement. Stake out Stake out is to position the point designed in advance on the spot. Stake out point need to acquire the result in real time. RTK is the only way to provide the centimeter accuracy real-time resolving project with the measuring method. Aquatic operation. The category of aquatic operation contains water depth measurement, aquatic navigation, warehouse volume measurement, construction position and piling inspection, etc. It needs box and needle or sound instrument to match.
