T h e Pa s t o r s N o t e s
Ive decided that if I moved to Chambersburg and wasnt a pastor, Id make Central Presbyterian my church home. Part of the reason is the congregation...part is the wonderful and inspiring worship...part is the terrific church staff...and part of the reason is the variety of events and activities available to help people draw closer to the Lord Jesus Christ, and to one another in a Christian community. Here are some of the events Im looking forward to in the next few months: The Mens Wild Game Supper on Feb. 5th. All men of the church are invited, whether you are a hunter or not, or whether you have wild game to prepare or not. Well enjoy a time of fellowship while we feast on venison, duck, goose, squirrel, salmon and other members of the animal kingdom. We ask that you bring a card identifying the delectable dish youve prepared and who fixed it. If youre not bringing wild game, please bring a side dish or dessert. Our speaker will be Wayne Shepperd, a retired PA State Trooper who now works for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Wayne will share with us about what we can do to help combat the great evil of human trafficking. This will be the first of quarterly mens gatherings at Central. A sermon series on the Seven Deadly Sins Anger! Lust! Gluttony! (and the rest - can you name them?) The series will begin Feb. 9th and run until Palm Sunday. Well be publicizing the sermon series in the community and will be providing you with invitation cards so you can invite your friends and neighbors to church during the series. A guest preacher visiting us Feb. 23rd, elder Bruce Clemence, a dear friend of mine from Virginia, will share his story of how God has helped him not only endure deep personal suffering, but find joy, peace and purpose in the midst of it. The Second Annual Fat Tuesday Pancake Supper & Variety Show will take place on March 5th. Last years was so much fun were doing it again! If you have an ability of any kind that may or may not qualify as a talent, wed love for you to share it! (This is why its called a Variety Show, not a Talent Show!). Please contact Erin if you have an act to share. The Christ Walk Lenten Womens Group though I cant participate I am excited that Central is beginning a new womens ministry this Lent. The Christ Walk group is a 40-day spiritual fitness program that combines walking and study. The group will meet Wednesdays at 9:30 AM beginning March 5 and conclude April 16 . See inside for more details. Central is a great church doing great things with a great future in the service of the Lord Jesus Christ. I hope you will draw closer to the Lord and to one another by participating in worship and the activities of the church in months ahead.

Church Family
Thank you....
Our family lost a dear wife and loving mother unexpectedly this month. For those that knew Phyllis Kier, you know she was a very special lady. We would like to thank everyone in the congregation for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Central hosted a touching and beautiful Memorial Service which captured Phyllis charm and spirit. We cannot express how thankful we are that we can depend on the kindness and sympathy of Central in our time of need. We will mourn Phyllis loss but through the strength of our faith and the bonds of our friendships, we will persevere and heal. Thank you so much. Jack and Stuart Kier With deepest gratitude from our local Missions: Cold Weather Drop-In Shelter (Maranatha) Dear Central Congregation, Be assured that your help is greatly appreciated and will assist the Cold Weather Drop-In Shelter in continuing to offer services to individuals in temporary need. Women In Need Dear Central Congregation, We cant thank you enough for your donation. Your contributions make it possible for us to be there when victims and their families reach out for help. The Salvation Army Dear Central Congregation, We at the Salvation Army Clearing House Ministry wish to thank you for your continued support. You helped us in the past, and have shown your faithfulness by helping us in the New Year by renewed support. Fruitbelt Farmworkers Christian Ministry Dear Central Congregation, Thank you for your monetary gift. Your contributions greatly benefited the seasonal and migrant farm workers in Franklin and surrounding counties. You helped in showing Christs love in a variety of ways.

ac
Thank you to everyone who gave their time to ring bells for the Salvation Army especially Julia Super, Gracie Mellott and Nate and Abbie Dalton. You collected $393.14 for people in need. Thank you for thinking about others in our community.

ac

A very special thank you goes out to Nancy MacFarlane for her kind contribution toward the monthly birthday cakes for Birthday Sunday over the past three years.

ac
Dear Central Family & Friends, Thank you for keeping me in your prayers before and after my surgery. Your cards, calls, and concerns, plus Pastor Scotts visitation during my stay in the hospital were deeply appreciated. God bless, Jane McClelland Birthday Sundays have been a long time tradition at Central Presbytery. If you would like to contribute to the birthday cake fund (either monetarily or purchase a birthday cake yourself), please contact George Cowley or the church office, 717-264-4113.

JOY VILLAGE UPDATE

Seven-year-old Boniface entered Joy Village recently. His admission documents tell a very sad story. At the age of 2 he was found abandoned. The police took the child to a childrens home on a rescue basis, meaning not a permanent placement. He lived in the home for a time but no one claimed him and no one adopted him, since Boniface is HIV+. No further action to rescue him had been taken until Joy Village took his case. Now he has a new home, medical care and family. Thank you for what you have done to make this miracle happen!
