Open the C:\boot.ini file in a text editor and locate the following section: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="????" 3. Add the /3 GB switch to the end of the following line: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="????" /3 GB 4. Save the file and restart Windows. Tip: You can also type the following command in a Command Prompt window to increase the available memory 3 GB: BCDEDIT /SET IncreaseUserVa 3072 To return the setting to the default value, type the following command: BCDEDIT /DELETE IncreaseUserVa

To specify the amount of RAM that a SQL server uses

Important: You can only use this procedure for servers with more than 4 GB of RAM. 1. Open SQL Server Management Studio. 2. In the Object Explorer, right-click the name of the server, and then click Properties. 3. In the Select a Page panel, click Memory. 4. Select the Use AWE to allocate memory check box.
