1 Given that h( x) = 6 x 3 + 29 x 2 − Ax − 5 = (3 x + 1)( x + B)(Cx − 1) for all real values of x,


where A, B and C are constants.

(a) Show that B = 5 and find the values of A and C. [3]

He makes a right circular cone, without overlap, of depth h cm, radius r cm and
