HARRY DRESDEN LIVES!!! After being murdered by a mystery assailant, navigating his way through the realm between life and death, and being brought back to the mortal world, Harry realizes that maybe death wasnt all that bad. Because he is no longer Harry Dresden, Chicagos only professional wizard. He is now Harry Dresden, Winter Knight to Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness. After Harry had no choice but to swear his fealty, Mab wasnt about to let something as petty as death steal away the prize she had sought for so long. And now, her word is his command, no matter what she wants him to do, no matter where she wants him to go, and no matter who she wants him to kill. Guess which Mab wants first? Of course, it wont be an ordinary, everyday assassination. Mab wants her newest minion to pull off the impossible: kill an immortal. No problem there, right? And to make matters worse, there exists a growing threat to an unfathomable source of magic that could land Harry in the sort of trouble that will make death look like a holiday. Beset by enemies new and old, Harry must gather his friends and allies, prevent the annihilation of countless innocents, and find a way out of his eternal subservience before his newfound powers claim the only thing he has left to call his own His soul.

Reviews
One of the really good ones, proves that the last book was just a hiccup and that the story is really in full speed now. Not only is this book pretty good, it's also a pretty good set-up for what's coming. I would've preferred had the big looming threat been biblical instead of Lovecraftian, but meh, maybe we'll get a visit from Lucifer in one of the books anyway. Lucifer in cahoots with Cthulhu, one can dream... So this one had nice scenes with pretty much every character, the Fae courts, Mouse made a short but always amusing come back, Toot proved once again that the whole serie should revolve around him, Molly just can't catch a break, Santa Claus was pretty important, Karrin and Harry had some pretty sweet scenes although they still seem stuck in the will they, won't they loop, Thomas was pretty good. The whole showdown was over pretty quickly though, the Redcap had been built up as an antagonist and he finished with just some lines. But all in all one of the great books and I can't wait for the next one.

WOW! I didn't see all the twists and turns coming in this one. I think that's one of the main reasons I love the Dresden Files so much. It challenges me to put the pieces together (unlike many other books where I can predict plots) and it weaves in all these wonderful and unpredictable plot elements and characters. This book takes the series to a whole new level. It ties in all these random strings from previous novels and bonds the series together like never before. (I now need to go back and read the whole series over again to pick up on all these finite pieces I missed before or have forgotten over time). A wonderful addition to the series and it just keeps pushing on. I know Butcher has an arc for the series planned and since about 3 books ago, I can tell that he's running with it, whatever it might be (because again, I've got NO clue!). I look forward to reading each and every single book in this series. I can't wait for the next one. A storm is coming? Oh boy!

I was turned onto the Dresden Files series about six or seven years ago now. Over the course of the series, Harry Dresden has been battered, burned and nearly killed so many times I've lost count. He's made enemies and friends, and he's gained knowledge and strength. Jim Butcher now has so many balls in the air with this series that even those of us who have read many of the books multiple times still have trouble recalling

everything that's happened. In Cold Days, Harry finds himself in yet another predicament. He accepted the position of Winter Knight from the Queen of the Winter Court, Mab, because he needed the strength the position provides in Changes in a confrontation with a court of vampires. For his first task, Mab tells Harry he must kill an immortal. Harry has to gather up all his old friends to figure out why he needs to kill an immortal, how he's going to accomplish it and where this fits in the bigger picture of everything that's gone wrong in the world in the past books in the series. If you're waiting for Cold Days or are finished and now awaiting the next Dresden Files book, try The Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne.
