La prsentation du corps dans la littrature

Ce que cache mon langage, mon corps le dit. Mon corps est un enfant entt, mon langage est un adulte trs civilis.

Cette citation de Roland Barthes dans son essai Fragments dun discours amoureux (Seuil, 1977) prsente la relation indniable du corps et du langage. Dans la littrature moderne, crire le corps , cest scruter les signes tracs par le langage. Cependant, le corps parat tre toujours le sujet privilgi de limagination dans la littrature. Ds lors, il nous a sembl pertinent dinterroger cette notion fconde dans ce domaine. Nous proposons donc ici une rverie sur le corps et plus prcisment sur son rle imaginaire dans la littrature. Lampleur du sujet nous permet de proposer diffrentes approches : La prsence du corps en littratures compares, la traduction et linterprtation de limage du corps dune littrature lautre, la transformation de limage du corps de la littrature classique la littrature contemporaine, Limage du corps dans la littrature de voyage, la prsentation du corps dans la littrature du Moyen-Orient ou dans la littrature femme (Gender Studies), le corps comme sujet principal dune pice de thtre, La diffrenciation du corps du Moi et du corps de lAutre, la transition du corps rel celui de limaginaire, Le rapport du corps et du langage : une approche linguistique, le corps cre-t-il un procd mtaphorique dans la littrature ? Cette liste nest certainement pas exhaustive mais dj, ces approches dessinent une position du corps dans la littrature que ce soit en posie ou en prose. Il sagit non seulement dtudier la littrature contemporaine mais galement dinterroger la prsentation du corps dans la littrature prcdente. La question en perspective peut tre pose dans la littrature de pays diffrents, du ct de la cration comme de la rception du texte, origines dune image nouvelle autant quinattendue du corps . La rflexion vise montrer comment

ce sujet, en tant que processus de mtabolisation imaginaire, peut avoir une influence sur les textes littraires. En effet, au-del des diffrentes figurations littraires possibles, la prsentation du corps agit simultanment dans la littrature et dans lespace des sciences humaines comme un oprateur dune imagination collective.

Modalits dinscription :
Cette journe dtude est ouverte tous, doctorants et jeunes chercheurs en particulier, que ce soit en littrature franaise, en littrature trangre, en langues anciennes ou en linguistique. Les articles peuvent tre rdigs en franais ou en anglais. Les propositions devront contenir 300-500 mots et tre accompagnes dune bibliographie et dune courte biographie permettant de retracer le parcours de lintervenant lors de sa prsentation. Les communications ne devront pas dpasser 20 minutes.

The representation of the body in literature

What is hidden by my language is expressed by my body. My body is a stubborn child and my language is a very civilized adult.

This quote by Roland Barthes from his collection of essays A Lover's Discourse: Fragments (Hill and Wang, 2010) presents us with the undeniable relationship between the body and language. Indeed, the body has always been the subject of literary imagination and it seems appropriate, as it has been the case for numerous studies, to explore this fruitful concept in the field of literature. Therefore, we propose a musing on the body with an emphasis on its imaginary role in literature. The magnitude of corporeal (re)presentations in literature will hopefully bring about stimulating and interdisciplinary discussions on the subject. We especially welcome abstracts that examine issues surrounding the following themes: The representation of the body in comparative literature The image of the body in travel literature: the representation of the body in Middle Eastern literature How can one differentiate between ones own body and that of the other? The transformation of the corporeal image from classic to contemporary literature The transition of the real body to the imaginary body The representation of the body in womens literature: classic as well as contemporary The translation and/or the interpretation of the body from one literature to another The body and theatre Does the body create a metaphorical process in literature? The relation between body and language: a linguistic approach

As these approaches are neither limited to genre nor period, abstracts dealing with different literary genres and epochs will also be welcomed. Moreover, these questions can be situated in cross-cultural perspectives which can produce new images/representations of the body. This literary exchange can also be seen as an attempt to show how the body, as a process of imaginary and/or linguistic metabolism, may have an influence on (the study of) literary texts.
