UNIVERSIDAD CAPITAN GENERAL GERARDO BARRIOS SCHOOL OF ARTS AND SCIENCES FOREIGN LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT TEACHING PRACTICE SEMESTER IX-2014 MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE

There are many things that come to my mind when I start to think about my social service, because it was a really great experience for my life. Now I am going to emphasize in those things that made me change my ideas about teaching.

- How did I feel when I start the social service? - How was students behavior in the classroom? - How was the experience that I acquired in that time?

I did my social service at Centro Escolar Basilio Blandon, Usulutn city. I was teaching the class of English to 1st, 4nd, 5th, 8th, and 9th, every single of these grades were very different at the moment to learn.

-How did I feel when I start the social service? Well, the first day at the beginning I felt excited, because it was my first time giving classes, I remember that I arrived on time every day that I came to the school. When the class began I was in front of the classroom, and the students were amazed and they were paying attention to me, and I really liked that. I introduced myself and I asked them, if they liked the English subject, some of them said: yes, and others said: more or less; but my work was to teach them, and I told them the importance to learn English, and they started to express good opinions and ideas about what I was talking with them.

Meaningful learning refers to the concept that the learned knowledge is fully understood by the individual. (ML, 2002)

I asked them, what did they know about English language? I did them this question in order to know what meaningful knowledge they had refers to English language, and the teacher told me that she was teaching them about some verbs, and pronouns. I realized that the way to teach is so important because depends to the methodology, methods, strategy and techniques that the teacher uses to achieve a really meaningful learning in the students.

- How was students behavior in the classroom? Behavior is one of the greatest challenges that teacher faces, especially when students getting special education services are in inclusive classrooms. These resources help the education teacher support their students in inclusive settings as well as help general education teachers and special teachers in self contained classrooms guarantee classroom success. (about.com, 2013)

As we know the behavior of the students change according to the grade that they are studying, for example, I liked to work in 1st grade because I taught them through of some songs, and pictures, and they memorized in an easy way the songs, I taught them about Greetings, and I remember that when they watch me, they started to sing that song, and I realized that they can memorize easier than us, because they are like a sponge, because they absorb easily any information. The school Basilio Blandon has the ability to have the number of students who had, as each student had his/her own seat and the classroom environment was very nice physically, the school has what is a classroom only for the class of English language, and also the school has a sound system for use in the English class.

Students work with English book so, sometimes they work in pairs using that book. Other times I told them to do group work in which they resolved some activities that I wrote them on the board. There are always students who are more salient than others, in 4th grade there was a student named Rosaura, she was one of my students who liked to participate in classes, and I remember when I did a dynamic in which needed four students, so Rosaura, Carla, Ernesto and Raul passed in front of the classroom and they did a great job, also there were some students who were difficult to understand the class, so I did some activities in order to they can understand the topic. Even though at first it was a little hard for me to memorize all the names of my students, I can say that I memorize several of them, but not all, but if most of my students I called them by his/her name. When I started a lesson with 9th grade I remember that some students told me that the teacher hardly taught about the verb "To be". So, I gave them a review refers to that verb, and they made me some questions and told me some doubts that they had about that topic. At the end of the lesson they understood the topic, and they could be used it in sentences, and some of them passed in front of the classroom and started saying sentences using the verb "to be", and then I leave them a task about to complete sentences using the correct form of the verb "to be". Reflection of my teaching practice, and what kind of teacher I would like to be I learnt. I think that the most important is that I acquired the experience and it was really great experience for me, because I realized how the students learn, and pay attention to me, and I realized how you can modify behaviors, because I remember a special student in 8 grade, that told me that she had a familiar problem and I told her some advises, and later she gave me thanks, because she felt better, and then she started to pay attention in classes, and she told me that when she grew up she wanted to be a professional like me. I want to be a different teacher.

I mean, when I was studying the school, I had many teachers who did not prepare the class, and I do not want to be like them. I want to teach, and make different things to change the idea that some students have about the English class. So, I want to give my best always, and teach with passion.
