Constitution of Marygrove College Black Student Union PREAMBLE We, as members of the Marygrove College student body, desiring

to improve the quality of life for black students on campus and increasing human relations between all students, do establish this constitution, in order to create an organization that:

Represents the interests and concerns of black students at Marygrove College, rings together all aspects of black student life for the purpose of improving the campus environment, providing support for the students and the community, !stablish and promote interaction and good relationships among ourselves and among all Marygrove College students by encouraging pluralism on the part of the faculty, administration, and the student body at large, "iscourages and abates institutional and individual acts and symbols of racism# $eightens political, social, and cultural awareness and friendship between all people, regardless of race, se%, religion, or national origin# $elp students develop sound leadership skills Welcomes anyone committed to or interested in our mission regardless of race, religion, se% or nationality# Moreover, promotes Competence, Commitment, and Compassion of the institution#

ARTICLE I Name &he name of this organization will be Marygrove College lack 'tudent (nion#

ARTICLE II

ur!ose &he purpose of the lack 'tudent (nion is to provide an opportunity for students of Marygrove College is to ensure administrative commitment to fair, equitable policies, as well as enriching student life socially and intellectually# While the organization is geared towards minority students, all are welcome to )oin regardless of race, creed, or religion# &he lack 'tudent (nion serves the purpose of organizing to represent the interests of the lack undergraduate students at Marygrove College# We are primarily an organization geared towards communicating the particular needs and concerns of lack 'tudents to the administration and general university community, as well as to provide the university with programming and information relevant to the lack e%perience# We shall work among ourselves and with various other organizations to develop programs in the interest of lack students# We aim to enrich student life culturally, intellectually, and socially* to ensure full ongoing administrative commitment to fair and equitable policies* and to strengthen and support the bonds of community between students and the metropolitan "etroit community# ARTICLE III Mem"ers#i! +# &he organization is open to all students of Marygrove College # &he organization shall not discriminate against any student on the basis of race, color, religion, se%, national origin, creed, age, disability, marital status, political opinions or affiliations, or veteran status# C# &o obtain active membership status, students must complete the membership application, and attend a minimum of ,-. meetings per semester# "# "ues /# &he amount of 0- will be charged every 1all2Winter semester for membership dues to contribute towards the assistance of programming and2or events sponsored by M3 '(# 4# &he monies will be paid the first month of the semester the student becomes a member# !# Membership allows one to vote# Membership will be renewed by registration and dues at the beginning of each school semester#

1# Removal #of Members /# 3rounds for removal of members include: a# 5iolation of College 6olicy b# 5iolation of the 'tudent Code of Conduct 4# + member may be removed by the following process:

+ petition shall be submitted to the 6resident containing the signatures of at least 478 of the voting members# When such a petition is received, the 6resident shall call a meeting of the organization to decide upon removal#

&he grounds for removal are to be presented by the 6resident at a regular or special meeting of the organization# &he member in question shall be provided one week to present a defense either in person or in writing# + 429 ma)ority vote of the voting membership shall decide upon removal, with voting not to occur sooner than one week after the presentation of the grounds and defense have been made# &here must be a quorum for the vote of removal# ARTICLE I$ Community Res!onsi"ilities

+ll members recognize that they are part of the Marygrove College community and the metropolitan "etroit community, and that as such, they are sub)ect to the rules and regulations set forth in the current student handbook, as well as national, state and city laws# +s students, members realize that they represent the college at any time they are involved in official organization functions on or off campus, and agree to do so in a responsible manner# ARTICLE $ %unding &he organization will have a treasurer designated as the party responsible for finances# +ll monies raised through club allocations, dues, donations, or fundraisers are acknowledged as Marygrove College funds and will be maintained to fund the organization:s mission# ;o monies associated with this organization will be held in accounts outside the college# ARTICLE $I &fficers &he officers of this organization shall be 6resident, 5ice 6resident, 'ecretary, and &reasurer# ARTICLE $II Elections 'ection /: Members< Members in good standing shall compromise the electorate# !ach member of the electorate shall be entitled to vote# 'ection 4: 'pring !lections< !lections shall be held during the month of +pril#

'ection 9: =ualifications for >ffice< +ll officers must be a registered and enrolled student with a 36+ of 4#- or above during the entire term of office and at time of election# ARTICLE $III 'uties of &fficers Section 1: Duties and responsibilities of the President. a# e the chief e%ecutive of the organization# b# 'erve as the liaison between the organization and the administrative offices# c# +ppoint the presidential cabinet, committees or commissions that are deemed necessary# d# Call special meetings of the organization# e# Meet monthly with the advisor# f# &ake care that this constitution and the laws of the student body are faithfully e%ecuted# g# 6erform any administrative power or duty not provided for in this constitution# Section 2: Duties and Responsibilities of the Vice President a# !%ercise presidential duties in absence of the president b# +ssume presidential office upon vacancy c# Make sure event registration forms and program report forms are completed d# Meet bi<weekly with advisor Section 3: Duties and Responsibilities of the Treasurer a# ?eep complete and accurate account of the organizations funds b# 'ign requisitions for organization funds c# 6repare the annual budget request packet with the president d# Report to the 6resident Section 4: Duties and Responsibilities of the Secretary a# &ake minutes at organization meetings b# Maintain complete and accurate records of all organization meetings# c# Report to the official board# d# >versees programming board Section 5: Duties and Responsibilities of the Ser eant at !r"s a# !nsure meetings start on time and is conducted in an orderly conduct through rules of order meetings# b# +ll motions should be brought forth by sergeant at arms c# Works with public relations and treasurer in ordering the organizations paraphernilia# d# Works with the vice president with booking rooms

Section #: Duties and Responsiblilties of the Public Relations Director a# Maintains accurate accounts of all social media# b# creates all publicity correspondences c# designs paraphernilia d# reports to secretary

ARTICLE I( $acancy of &ffice 'ection /: 6resident< @n the event that the president position becomes vacant* such vacancy shall be filed by the succession of the 5ice<6resident# 'ection 4: @n the event that the positions of the 5ice<6resident, 'ecretary, &reasurer, 'ergeant at +rms and 6ublic Relations become vacant a# &he members elect the new officer#

ARTICLE ( Removal of &fficers 'ection /: 3rounds for removal of an officer include:

1ailure to maintain qualifications to hold office as outlined in +rticle 5@@, 'ection 9 of this constitution

5iolation of the Marygrove College 'tudent Code of Conduct

1ailure to perform the duties of the office as set forth in the constitution and bylaws of the organization#

1ailure to uphold the provisions of this constitution and bylaws#

'ection 4: +n officer may be removed by the following process:

+n adviser may remove an officer unilaterally if the officer fails to maintain minimum qualifications to hold office as outlined in +rticle 5@@, 'ection 9 9 of this constitution

+ petition to remove the officer in question must be submitted to another officer# 'uch a petition must contain the signature of at least 478 of the voting members of the organization# When such a petition is received the officer shall call a meeting of the organization to decide upon removal#

6erform eligibility checks on all officers and members, and inform ineligible members of their status#

Remove ineligible officers and members from their position#

?eep open lines of communication with the 'tudent +ctivities staff on matters of concern regarding the organization# 'ection 9: +dviser 'election

&he e%ecutive board will meet with prospective advisers and make a recommendation to the general membership

&he general membership will confirm the adviser,s. by a ma)ority vote 'ection C: +dviser Removal

&he general membership may remove an adviser by a ma)ority

&his vote may not take place until one week after the adviser is informed of the group:s intent and one week after the Center for 'tudent Aeadership B +ctivities is notified

ARTICLE (II Amendments +fter deliberation of proposed amendments it shall be tabled until the ne%t meetings, at which time it will be brought up for vote# + 429 ma)ority will be required to pass amendments#
