ANALYTIC RUBRICS Topic: BIOTIC AND ABIOTIC COMPONENTS OF ECOSYSTEM Objective: To enable the students distinguish biotic and

d abiotic components of an ecosystem.

Specific: Identify 5-10 examples of biotic and abiotic components. Give five to ten defining characteristics of biotic component. Give five to ten characteristics of abiotic component that makes it different from biotic component. Determine three to five relationship or interactions of biotic and abiotic components. Explain how these interactions help in maintaining the balance of ecosystem.

Task Design: 1. Bring the students to the school ground. 2. Ask them to identify examples of biotic, as well as abiotic component, they can find in the school ground. 3. Let the student list their bases on identifying the examples as biotic or abiotic component. 4. Ask the students to identify three to five interactions involving biotic and abiotic components. 5. Let the students explain how these interactions help in balancing our ecosystem. Scoring Rubrics: CRITERIA CATEGARIZATION of the components of ecosystem CONCEPT (determining differences between biotic and abiotic components) IDENTIFICATION OF INTERDEPENDENCE

BEGINNER (1) Identified only 1-3 examples of biotic and abiotic components Gave 1-3 defining characteristics of biotic and abiotic components

DEVELOPING (2) Identified 4-7 examples of biotic and abiotic components Gave 4-7 defining characteristics of biotic and abiotic components

EXEMPLARY (3) Identified 8-10 examples of the biotic and abiotic components Gave 8-10 defining characteristics of biotic and abiotic components

Listed less than three interactions involving both components of ecosystem Superficial explanation of how these interactions maintain the ecosystems balance and fewer examples were cited

Listed three to four interactions involving biotic and abiotic components More elaborate explanation of the interactions and more examples of the interactions were given

Listed five ecological interactions involving the two components

APPLICATION

In depth explanation of the application of the interactions in attaining ecosystems balance

SCORING RUBRICS 3EXEMPLARY in distinguishing the components of ecosystem Identified almost all of the biotic and abiotic components present in the given ecosystem and their bases of classification Showed mastery in identifying interactions in the ecosystem involving biotic and abiotic components. Provide in depth explanations on how ecological interactions are beneficial in maintaining ecological balance.

2GOOD in distinguishing biotic component from abiotic component Identified larger examples of biotic and abiotic components in the given ecosystem. Give the required number of examples of interactions involving biotic and abiotic components of the ecosystem. Explained their given examples of interaction substantially.

1NOVICE in distinguishing biotic component from abiotic component Identified least number of the examples of biotic and abiotic components of ecosystem. Give the minimum examples of interactions involving ecological components. Provided superficial explanations of the interactions given in their relations to attaining ecological balance.
