The Day of Surgery

The patient arrives at The Keyes Surgicenter on the day of surgery. The registered nurse will check-in and prepare the patient for rhinoplasty surgery. Dr. Keyes and the anesthesiologist will meet with the patient prior to starting surgery. Dr. Keyes usually performs this procedure on an outpatient basis, either at The Keyes Surgicenter or at the affiliated hospitals - Cedars-Sinai Hospital or Century City Hospital. Following the procedure, a small splint is applied to the nose for protection and to reduce swelling in the early postoperative period. This splint is usually removed between five to seven days after surgery; bruising is variable. Dr. Keyes does not routinely use packing in the nose in most cases.

Recovery from Rhinoplasty

After the rhinoplasty surgery, the registered nurse monitors the patient closely in the recovery room until he or she is fully awake. After the patient is ready to be discharged by Dr. Keyes, a friend or relative shall escort the patient home and stay with him or her for that same night. The patient will follow specific postoperative instructions as written and discussed with the attending nurse. Although the patient may have some facial swelling and bruising during the first few days, there is minimal discomfort during the postoperative period. The patient will schedule a return visit to The Keyes Surgicenter on the next day for a follow-up evaluation. In the weeks, or sometimes months, following surgery, the patient may still experience some subtle swelling, especially in the tip. The final results of rhinoplasty may take up to one year or more to be completely apparent.

Nasal Structure
The nasal septum, the structure that separates the two nostrils inside the nose, is composed of cartilage and bone. The septum may become deviated or twisted, thereby causing a smaller nasal passage on one side or the other, or both. Various reasons account for this deviation, such as trauma at birth or accidental injury. This deviation may alter or impede the pattern of airflow through the nose, making it difficult to breathe. In addition, the nose may appear crooked with a hump as a result of this deviation.

Revision Rhinoplasty in Los Angeles

Revision rhinoplasty is surgery performed to correct the results of a previous nasal surgery. Unfortunately, subsequent surgeries to the nose are more difficult than the preceding one(s) due to the formation of scar tissue that lessens the options during a revision surgery. In order to assess his or her nasal condition for rhinoplasty, the prospective patient should set up a consulation with Dr. Keyes. The use of video-imaging enhances this process in that the patient can directly relate to Dr. Keyes the specific conditions of concern. Dr. Keyes will examine and discuss the various concerns with the patient in order to ascertain the best plan to correct or refine the nose.
