A mente de Joel comeou a divagar ao ouvir a me falar dos benefcios de nos mantermos limpos, at que as palavras experincia de higiene captaram sua ateno. Joel gostava muito de experincias e estava sempre pronto para uma. Ento, escutou atentamente enquanto a me terminava a explicao. No final, Joel continuou sentado, espantado com o que tinha ouvido. Ser que a me estava realmente falando a srio quando disse que posso ficar uma semana inteira sem limpar nada, inclusive eu prprio, pensou Joel. Olha, gosto muito da ideia! Ser uma boa mudana para toda essa limpeza e arrumao que tenho que fazer constantemente. Talvez no final mame veja que no precisa esquentar tanto a cabea com todas essas coisas de higiene, e eu nunca mais tenha que limpar nada!
Jesse's mind wandered as his mother began to talk about the benefits of keeping clean until the words "hygiene experiment" caught his attention. Experiments were something that Jesse enjoyed and could never turn down. He readily listened as his mother finished her explanation. Afterwards Jesse remained in his seat, bewildered by what he'd heard. Did Mom really mean that I can actually have a full week without cleaning anything, including myself? Jesse thought.Well, I like the sound of that! It'll be a nice break from all that cleaning and tidying Im always having to do. Maybe once it's over Mom will realize all this hygiene stuff is not worth fussing over, and I won't have to clean up ever again!

On the first day, Jesse was excitedhe skipped his chores and cleaning up after himself. He didn't seem to mind his untidy room or his unkempt hair.

No primeiro dia, Joel estava felicssimo. No fez suas tarefas, nem limpou o que sujou. No parecia se importar por seu quarto estar desarrumado e seu cabelo desgrenhado.

O segundo dia foi ainda melhor! Quando chegou o terceiro dia, apesar de Joel se sentir um pouco desconfortvel e com coceira, estava feliz por no ter que tomar banho nem lavar o cabelo.

Day two was even better! And by day three, while Jesse found himself a little itchy and uncomfortable, he was glad he didn't have to bother with showering or washing his hair.

However, by the fourth day, when there were no clean dishes for Jesse to eat from, he began to wonder about his new way of living. It seemed there were inconveniences with this lifestyle too, but Jesse shrugged the thought away.

Mas no quarto dia, quando no encontrou mais nenhum prato limpo para comer, Joel comeou a se perguntar sobre essa nova forma de viver. Parece que esse estilo de vida tambm tem inconvenientes, mas Joel rechaou aquele pensamento.

No quinto dia, quando voltou de um vigoroso jogo de futebol, Joel reparou que tanto ele quanto o seu quarto estavam fedendo. Tinha uma sensao desagradvel nos dentes, e na realidade sentia vontade de escov-los, mas decidiu que podia esperar um pouco mais. Contudo, no podia deixar de perceber que os amigos no queriam ficar perto dele. -- desagradvel ficar perto de voc e voc cheira mal diziam.

Coming back from a vigorous game of soccer on day five, Jesse noticed that both he and his bedroom stank. His teeth were feeling pretty yucky, and he actually wanted to brush them, but he decided he could put up with it a little longer. He couldn't help but notice, however, that his friends weren't keen on hanging around him. "Youre embarrassing to be around and you smell bad," they said.

No sexto dia, Joel no suportava mais as moscas que o seguiam por toda a parte. Ele achara que no ter que se preocupar com sua higiene pessoal ou limpar o que sujava seria timo, mas estava comeando a incomodar. Seu estmago doia, ele se sentia horrivelmente mal e parecia horrvel, seus amigos pararam de se aproximar dele, e at tinha dificuldade de dormir noite, porque se sentia to sujo e nojento que estava sempre com coceira.

By day six, the flies that followed Jesse wherever he went were becoming unbearable. He had thought that not having to worry about personal hygiene or cleaning up after himself would be great, but now it was turning into a bother. His stomach hurt, he looked and felt terrible, his friends had stopped coming around, and he even had trouble sleeping at night because he felt so dirty and gross and was always itchy.

No final do stimo dia, Joel estava cansado e enojado de sujeira e baguna. By the end of the seventh day, Jesse was sick and tired of the filth and mess. He ended the experiment by voluntarily taking a shower, followed by a bath, so that he could soak and scrub himself. He brushed his teeth three times in a row. He eagerly and cheerfully washed the dishes and did an in-depth tidying-up of his bedroom. He was surprisingly thankful for washing machines, dish soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and a host of other items associated with cleaning and cleanliness. It was now clear to Jesse just how important daily hygiene was.

A me de Joel chegou concluso de que aquela semana de sofrimento valeu a pena! Agora, aquele trabalho contnuo de lembrar e incentivar Joel a cuidar de si mesmo e das suas coisas e de ajudar na casa havia acabado... para sempre.

Jesse's mom concluded that the week of suffering was worth it! Her previously continual job of reminding and coaxing Jesse to take care of himself and his things and to help out around the house was now overforever.
