Rosicrucianism is a generic term referring to studies or membership within a phi losophical secret society said to have been founded in late medieval Germany by Christian Rosenkreuz. It holds a doctrine or theology "built on esoteric truths of the ancient past", which, "concealed from the average man, provide insight in to nature, the physical universe and the spiritual realm."[1] Rosicrucianism is symbolized by the Rosy Cross. Freemasons Freemasonry is a fraternal organisation that traces its origins to the local fra ternities of stonemasons, which from the end of the fourteenth century regulated the qualifications of masons and their interaction with authorities and clients . The degrees of freemasonry, its gradal system, retain the three grades of medi eval craft guilds, those of Apprentice, journeyman or fellow (now called Fellowc raft), and Master Mason. In 1775, an African-American named Prince Hall,[52] a long with fourteen other African-Americans,was initiated into a British military lodge with a warrant from the Grand Lodge of Ireland, having failed to obtain a dmission from the other lodges in Boston. When the military Lodge left North Ame rica, those fifteen men were given the authority to meet as a Lodge, but not to initiate Masons. In 1784, these individuals obtained a Warrant from the Premier Grand Lodge of England (GLE) and formed African Lodge, Number 459. When the UGLE was formed in 1813, all U.S.-based Lodges were stricken from their rolls due la rgely to the War of 1812.
