REFLECTION (SHAHIRAH IZZATI BINTI SHAIK OSMAN)

Alhamdulillah, praise to Allah for giving me good health and strength to complete this English for Undergraduates (ELE 3101) task for this semester. I received a task from Mr. Puveneswaran a/l Karuppiah to compile different types of graphic organizers and reading strategies from various references with my own notes and then apply the best reading strategy and graphic organizer to the selected text. This assignment was assigned for group work. I realized one of my strength when doing this task is that I never give up, always pull up my socks and do not threw in the towel. Besides, I always think positive and let my mind feel free to think and express my opinion and this is one of my secret ingredients towards success. I gained lots of new knowledge and learned many new vocabulary and words during the process of reading and highlighting the article that I have found from the task given, especially about reading strategies and graphic organizers. Before this, my knowledge about these topics is very low. However, after I have done this task, I knew that there are various types of reading strategies and graphic organizers such as SQ3R, Insert, Concept Map, Spider Map and Cluster Chart which I can apply it in my daily life as a student. Besides, this usable knowledge can be use when I become a teacher soon. This is because, it will help students to be a better reader by using suitable reading strategy and graphic organizer. I am very satisfied with my group members who give good teamwork and full commitment in order to finish this task excellently. Alhamdulillah, I am very proud and grateful to have such a good members who cares for each other. In an organization, good relationships between members will create a happy atmosphere and all can work in harmony and peacefully.

While doing this assignment, I have faced a lot of obstacles. First of all, I do not know exactly on how to do this task. However, after discussing with my beloved lecturer, I find out that I must compile different types of graphic organizers and reading strategies from various references with my own notes and then apply the best reading strategy and graphic organizer to the selected text, after that discuss the strength and weaknesses of each reading strategy and graphic organizer. In addition, I had problems in forming sentences to make my own notes and complete an essay about the strength and weaknesses of each graphic organizer and reading strategy. However, this problem solved when I used online dictionaries. I learned many new words and this automatically improved my English level. There is weakness in every strength. Another problem which I have faced is that I am not so good in grammar and this makes it difficult for me to do this task excellently. Action speaks louder than word. I overcome the weaknesses by allocate an hour a day to speak with my classmates. On top of that, I read an article a day from English newspaper such as The Star. This will me improve my vocabulary and grammar. In addition, in order to increase my English level, I took the criticism positively and consider it as constructive criticism which is good for my cognitive development. From my opinion, there are no yellow lights neither red light to reach such destination called goal. Although I have faced many problems in completing this task, I felt very thankful and satisfied with my work. Finally, I hope that this assignment will make my lecturer satisfy and happy with my work and as a trainee teacher, I promise to myself that I will try my best to be a good teacher and to reveal useful human on this earth.
