Q02: What profile does TimeProvider 5000 support? A: TimeProvider 5000 supports Telecom-2008 Profile (pre-ITU G.8265.1), ITU G.8265.1 Telecom Profile, IEEE 1588 Default Profile, and Hybrid profile (non standard). Back to top

Q10: TimeProvider 5000 supports packet rate range from 1 to 128 messages per second. Does that mean with lower packet rate I can increase the client capacity greater than 1000 clients? A: No. Regardless of the packet rate you choose, the maximum client capacity for TimeProvider 5000 in unicast mode is 1000 clients. Back to top

Q11: Do you have clock redundancy protection in TimeProvider 5000? A: Yes, TimeProvider 5000 supports clock redundancy protection (IOC card redundancy). By default, the first IOC card from the left is the active clock and the second IOC card from the left is the standby clock. Back to top

Q12: One IOC card can support up to 1000 maximum clients. Can you increase client capacity from 1000 clients to 2000 clients with two IOC cards? A: No. You can only have one active IOC card running per shelf. The second IOC card is always a standby card for redundancy protection. Back to top

Q13: Can I use E1/2.048MHz input in I/O card for input clock reference instead of GPS? A: Yes, providing it is for frequency application only since there is no phase reference from the E1/2.048MHz input. Back to top

Q14: What is the capacity for the standalone NTP server? A: There are two capacity configurations supported in the TimeProvider 5000 standalone NTP server. One

is base configuration, which supports up to 20,000 transactions per second. The other is ultra high configuration, which supports up to 120,000 transactions per second. Back to top

Q15: If the 20,000 tps capacity TimeProvider 5000 NTP server is purchased initially, can I upgrade to 120,000 capacity? A: No. We dont support the upgrade in release 2.0. The support is planned for future release. Back to top

Q16: Does TimeProvider 5000 NTP server supports NTP peering? A: No; in 2.0 release, TimeProvider 5000 NTP server is GPS-only stratum 1 server. Back to top

Q17: For the TimeProvider 5000 PTP GM, can I upgrade the system to have both PTP and NTP? A: Yes, you can upgrade the system to have both modes by purchasing an NTP software license key. Back to top

Q18: What is the port configuration for having both NTP and PTP modes? A: With both NTP and PTP modes configured, you will have one port running with NTP traffic and the other port running with PTP traffic. Back to top

Q21: What is the TimeProvider expansion shelf platform? A: It is a next generation platform with rack and stack architecture to expand the capabilities of the TimeProvider 5000 for next generation technology network. The maximum you can stack is up to 10 shelves with a TimeProvider 5000. TimeProvider E10 and TimeProvider E30 are part of the expansion shelf platform. Back to top

Q22: What is TimeProvider E10? A: TimeProvider E10 is a TimeProvider expansion shelf which supports PTP and SyncE on the same port. There are a total of 16 ports capacity for PTP and SyncE traffic. By default, users get 8 ports capacity, and it requires 16 port license key to expand to a total of 16 ports. The TimeProvider E10 supports the prestandards ITU 8275.1 profile for layer 2, multicast connectivity. Back to top

Q23: What is TimeProvider E30? A: TimeProvider E30 is a TimeProvider expansion shelf which supports E1/2.048MHz and 1PPS+TOD outputs. There are total of 12 ports on each port type. For E1/2.048MHz, it has SMA connector port type. For 1PPS+TOD, it has RJ45 connector type. Back to top

Q24: What do I need in order to deploy either TimeProvider E10 or E30? A: You will need TimeProvider 5000 as main shelf to provide timing reference to TimeProvider E10 and E30. In TimeProvider 5000, you also need an IMC card which has DTI port supports. DTI port connection provides timing reference between TimeProvider 5000 and TimeProvider E10 or E30. Back to top

Q25: What is the redundancy protection for the DTI connection between TimeProvider 5000 and TimeProvider E10 or E30? A: The main DTI connection between TimeProvider 5000 and TimeProvider E10/E30 is via the DTI port on the IMC card to the DTI port on the expansion shelf. And the redundancy DTI connection is via the DTI/UTI port on the I/O card to the DTI port on the expansion shelf. Back to top

Q26: What cable type do I need to use for a DTI connection to the expansion shelf? A: For an I/O card with DTI ports, you can use regular CAT5 Ethernet cable. For I/O cards with UTI ports, you need to use custom CAT5 Ethernet cable. The custom connector pin setting is described in TimeProvider 5000 User Guide.

A: Yes If the TimeProvider 5000 is configured with two IOC cards, one card is active and drives outputs, while the other is in standby mode. Both cards share the same configuration, IOC1.
