GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Database Administrator IV is responsible for supporting the databases and ensuring their performance, availability

and security. He/she is responsible for performing installation of database software in both clustered and non-clustered environments. The ability to proactively monitor the database systems to ensure a secure environment with minimum downtime is necessary for this position. The role is responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases, including rollouts, upgrades, and backups, to support the organization's application systems. The DBA IV also prepares and maintains documentation of database and hardware configurations.

The candidate has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field and general knowledge of various common operating systems in support of performing database-related tasks. The position relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. The ability to work in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines is required. Essential Functions Provides World Class Customer Service to internal and external customers Support the creation, maintenance and implementation of procedures regarding how problems are identified, received, documented, distributed and corrected Ensures project documents are complete, current and stored appropriately Manages day-to-day project and scope changes Communicates and coordinates database schedule, backups, and downtime to users Reviews reports, files, and messages to identify instances of possible security infractions Responds to inquiries regarding database security, policies, and procedures Participates in the planning, communication, testing, and implementation of disaster Performs capacity planning Identifies potential security issues and recommends strategy to ensure database security Researches and evaluates new technologies recovery procedures Collects and analyzes server and memory utilization Install and configure database software and other software related to database management systems

Work closely with the system administrator to perform software installations, and to configure hardware and software so that it functions optimally with the Database Management Systems Monitor and administer DBMS security Analyze the data stored in the database and to make recommendations relating to performance and efficiency of that data storage Administer existing enterprise databases, and analyze, design and create new databases Proactively monitor systems for optimum performance and capacity constraints Establish standards and best practices for SQL Interact with and coach developers in SQL scripting Perform database backup and recovery Provides 24x7 support to the enterprise database systems Secondary Functions Must provide mentoring and training to other staff members Writes process and procedural documentation including requirements Develops and coordinates knowledge transfer Establishes enterprise-wide uniform infrastructure, including supporting defined departmental content processes and creating guidelines for content deployment Interacts with business units to gather, define, and organize delivery of business solutions

Education and/or Experience: Must have a college degree or equivalent experience 7-10 years hands-on database administration related work experience Must be familiar with RDBMS concepts, practices, and procedures Must have knowledge in a broad range of Oracle database management systems Must have knowledge of network connectivity Extensive experience with Oracle9i, Oracle10g and Oracle11g Extensive experience with Oracle export/import, Data Pump Extensive experience with Oracle RMAN backup Extensive experience with HP-UX, Linux, Solaris, and Windows Extensive experience with Unix shell scripting Proficient in SQL and PL/SQL Language Knowledge of Oracle GoldenGate

Knowledge of CVS and SVN Knowledge of SAN infrastructure including HP OCP preferred Familiar with Toad, SQL Developer, and Aqua Data Studio Extensive experience of Oracle RAC Extensive experience of Oracle Data Guard Familiar with middle-tier application servers Excellent trouble shooting and problem resolution skills Excellent database and SQL tuning skills Strong knowledge of Data Modelling Strong knowledge of XML, and JDBC

Analytical/Interpersonal Skills Solid communication skills Must be able to exchange information with all levels of internal and external customers Sets priorities, based on workload, using past experiences as a guide line Makes self-available to other staff members as a source of information Can lead projects trough complex tasks Must have good collaboration skills Ability to work on a variety of tasks in parallel
