B. Project Description B.1 Introduction Confectioneries are sweet foods. They are composed mainly of sugar.

Sugar is the ingredient responsible for the sweet taste of confectioneries. Confectioneries come in various forms. The most familiar forms are cakes, cupcakes, chocolates and candies. Other selection includes choc nuts, pretzels, lollipops and wafer sticks. These forms of confectioneries may be combined with one another to produce a more appetizing food. For example, a plain cake may be topped with frostings, sprinkles and flavored syrups. Aside from putting them as toppings, they may also be incorporated in one form. For instance, a cake may also be filled in with vanilla frost to make it more flavorful. The confectioneries mentioned above are frequently sold in malls and cafs wherein they are only accessible to those people who are always on-the-go. Thats why other people will have to find time to go these places just to satisfy their desire to eat confectioneries. The different confectionery stores are usually centralized in a single area while in fact, almost everywhere, people want to buy those kinds of foods. The best example is the students. Aside from kids, they are ones fond of eating confectioneries. Because they are also busy for schoolwork, they do not have enough time to travel just to fulfill their crave for sweets. The best alternative is to bring the confectionery store within their reach so that they can access it anytime they want to. After all, the students are confined in a single place which is the school, so it will not be hard for the entrepreneur to gain market share especially if there are no or just a few competitors doing the same business in the immediate vicinity. B.2 Rationale and Significance Rationale Confectioneries refer to the set of food items that are rich in sugar. These may also refer to any other sweets in the markets. These products were all in demand in the market since almost all persons loved to eat sweets especially chocolates. And though excessive consumption of these sugar-rich products may lead to harmful effects, people still patronized it as it was a drug that they were addicted to.

In the Philippines,Filipinos are naturally fond of sweets. Maybe not necessary all in confectioneries, but nevertheless, Filipinos were sweet lovers. And as to the confectioneries details, statistics even showed that Filipinos spent P4.8billion in2009 for sugar products that consist of candies and chocolates, among others according to the National Statistics Office-Family Income and Expenditure Survey.The Philippines is also a net importer of chocolates. As to the information acquired, there is a trade deficit (exports minus imports) increased by 15.7 percent per annum from US$2.1 million in 2006 to US$3.7 million in 2010.It even showed that in 2010, the country imported 1,818 tons of chocolates valued at US$5.4 million. There was a decrease of 0.5 percent per annum from 2,166 tons (US$4.2 million) in 2006. Imports peaked in 2009 at 3,051 tons valued at US$8.2 million. Then, with such details in the past few years, we can say that Filipinos were really fond of sweets and willing to spend their money for such sweets. And as to the population in the vicinity were the establishment will be built, a survey is conducted to prove that they, the students and people in the vicinity area, were also fond of sugar-rich products or confectioneries. And the results of that also showed that most of them were also sweets lover and willing to spend part of their money and allowances for the consumption of sweets. Significance of the Feasibility Study This study accounts for the purpose of introducing confectionery or sweet products within the vicinity of Aurora Plaza near Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIPQC) and ACCESS College. It aims to penetrate and dominate the market of sweet products in the said area. Primarily, potential entrepreneurs and concessionaires is the beneficiary of this study. The proposed venture will not only attract those people who naturally eat sweets but also for those who have interest and/or not frequent consumers of confectioneries. This is to establish a food preference for sweet lovers and provide them with a convenient shop offering variety of sweets. More so, the students will benefit especially during exams because research and studies show that confectioneries enhance brain activity. It increases mental alertness and enhances the whole brain functions resulting to an active lifestyle. It is also found to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and sustain our bodys regular temperature. Accordingly, this feasibility study was found significant to the following people: Page | 5

Existing Entrepreneurs in the food industry. As the business world continues to evolve, more and more entrepreneurs are encourage to start their own business with the vision of obtaining profits. With this scenario, the competition becomes stiff progressively, especially in the food industry. In this present condition the existing entrepreneurs should develop some strategy to maintain market share despite the competition. This study can be one of their best choice to select in case they want to offer something new to the market especially in those places where confectioneries are highly demanded and are currently inexistent. Potential Entrepreneurs. For people who plan to enter the business world in the future, this study will be significant because it can be a key to open the gateway for successful business venture. Potential Customers. If the business proposal will be materialized, this feasibility study will benefit the potential customers in Aurora Plaza who are fond of eating confectioneries. These include the students coming from the various colleges and institutions around the business vicinity. It will provide them what they need along with the convenience, satisfaction, and quality service they deserve. Students taking up Business Courses. This feasibility study can serve as a useful guide for students who will make their own feasibility studies in the future.

C. Plan of Work Objectives of the Feasibility Study Amidst the other business, SWEETBOX aims to gain profit along with cost minimization and effective financial management. It also aims to acquire market share and satisfy customers needs and wants by providing quality confectionery products based on their preference. Actual Plan SWEETBOX will be situated in Aurora Plaza near Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIPQC). Initially, two employees will be hired specifically for the work of a cashier and a service crew. The store will be offering different confectioneries such as chocolates, candies and cakes in a comfortable and leisure ambiance. It will be opened for daily operation during Mondays to Saturdays, from 9 AM to 9 PM, the time when prospective customers are expected to be within the business area. The products will be purchased from trusted companies that are listed in the suppliers list on a weekly basis. The employees will conduct the inventory count of the products after each business day. Any product left will be properly preserved in the cooler. The products expiration life will also be monitored. Any waste material will be segregated in a trash bin located outside the shop. The business will also allot a reasonable time for cleaning the area to make it ready for the next days operation. The self-service style will be adopted by SWEETBOX. The customers can freely choose whatever product they want and they will be the one to choose the desired toppings for their sweets. This style will be utilized in order for the customers to have a unique experience in the shop. Quality service will be provided to the customers through fast and well satisfying performance of the staff. Registration Before actual operation, as a major requirement of all kinds of business, the potential entrepreneur must comply with all the legal processes and registration. This phase is the birth of the business proper. It is mandatory in nature for the business to have a legal name.

Sweetbox, as a sole proprietor shop, will have to register its name in the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), as well its owners profile and the address of business. After compliance with the DTIs requirements, Sweetbox will next go through the barangay to get a barangay clearance and lastly to the Municipal Hall for the business permit. For sanitary compliance, after putting up the actual shop, the owner will get a schedule of visit to the municipality to overview and evaluate the shop. Renovation After compliance with all of the legal requirements, the next activity to be noticed is the necessary construction or renovation, if any. This is the improvement of the shop including its structural and internal concepts and design. Sweetbox will be conceptualized as a gift-like box with sweets and confectioneries as detailed design. The interior phase will be constructed based on its interior concepts. Acquisition of Products and Equipment Sweetbox will get its supplies of products at any grocery store selling sweets and other suggested products while its furniture and fixtures will be bought at any commercialized establishment offering the quality and designed chairs, tables and display racks. Other needed equipments and tools will be bought in any hardware, appliance and kitchenware stores. Commencement After having a final preparation, grand opening of Sweetbox will be held on the first week of June 2013 in accordance to the next school year. Officially, it will be the first shop in Aurora Plaza offering variety of sweets and/or confectionery. The commencement will be held as an ordinary program; at which employees will distribute a promotional coupons and flyers regarding the shop and its products. Future Plan Approximately after two years of operation, the store visualizes itself as a well-performing venture with a large market share. The shop will offer special services for different events such as birthdays, debuts, weddings and parties. More so, it will enjoy stable profitability and larger return of investment. Also, a special offer for the customers of enjoying a privilege of using points as payment for transactions with the use of prestige cards will be carried out. Page | 8

Aside from those mentioned above, Branching-out and Franchising will also be implemented. Branching-out is the phase wherein an entity puts up the same store or shop in other places or vicinity for the growth of the said venture. After some years of successful operations from the main shop, branches in different places all over the Philippines will be put up for better customer relations. The said shops can be franchised by those qualified people who want to invest their money for guaranteed return of investment. Franchising takes place when an entity allows other people to manage branch of a business by meeting of the minds as regards to the conditions and agreements in black and white. The store will avail a telephone line which can be used for entertaining delivery transactions for the convenience of the customers at home. Moreover, it can also be used in providing free Wi-Fi zone for the customers. For those who cannot afford the cost of franchising and are having great intention to sell our products, dealership would be the one of their choice. To secure that the business products are high quality, the business will tie up with trusted manufacturers of confectioneries who can provide for the increasing product demand.
