Learning Outcomes: By the end of the lesson, pupils would be able to : LO1 - Match five sentences with the pictures correctly by referring to the Ugly Duckling story. LO2 - Fill in five blanks with suitable words or phrases by referring to the route of the journey and pictures of places on the maps given to each group. LO3 - Answer at least 8 out of 16 questions correctly in written form based on the Ugly Duckling story. CCTS Moral Value: Teaching Resources/Aids: Prior Knowledge/Skills: Tell, Identify, Making association Self confident, cooperation, responsible, gratitude Video presentation, power point presentation, pictures, handouts, manila cards. Pupils have learnt a few significant about animals in Year 1-3

Steps Induction Set ( 5 minutes) Teaching Strategy 1. Teacher starts the class by telling the pupils that they are going to watch a short video entitled Ugly Duckling. 2. Pupils are reminded to watch the video carefully as teacher will posts a few questions after the video presentation. 3. Based on the video, teacher elicits pupils idea by asking a few questions. Language Content T : Today, we are going to watch a video. I want you to watch this video carefully. Notes Teaching aid: Video CCTS : Tell Moral value: Self confident Multiple intelligence: Musical

T: I want all of you to pay attention to this video as I will posts a few questions after the video ends.

T: So, what can you see from the video? P: I saw an ugly duck. T: What did the ugly duck do in the video? P: He paint his fathers car

Step 1: ( 15 minutes) (Story Telling)

1. Teacher shows the title of the story without any picture clues.

T: Ok class, by looking at this title of the story Ugly Duckling, what can you say about this story?

Teaching aid: PowerPoint slide show (Ebook),puppet

2. By looking at the title, pupils are asked to predict on what the Ugly Duckling is all about.

P: It is about a duck that not very CCTS: good looking. Identify T: Why did you say so? P: Because the words ugly means not beautiful. Moral value: Grateful Multiple intelligence: Linguistic

3. After pupils make some prediction, teacher read the story to the class with intonation and puppet using E-book.

4. Pupils are reminded to listen to the story attentively.

T: Im going to read the story through this E-book. I want all of you to pay attention and listen attentively while I read the story. Can you do it? T: Im going to paste five pictures which are related to the Ugly Duckling story.

5. Then, teacher pastes five pictures on the board which is related to the text. 6. Based on the text given earlier on Ugly Duckling, pupils are asked to look at the pictures on the board carefully and find any sentence in the sentence strips derived from the story that best describe each picture. 7. Pupils will be given time to identify the correct sentence in the text.

T: So, I want all of you to look at these pictures carefully and choose any sentence from the text that best describe each picture. T: Now, I want 5 volunteer to come to the front and choose the best sentence that describe each picture. T: So class, now lets see if your friends are able to choose the correct sentence which is related to the pictures.

8. Teacher calls 5 volunteers to come in front and paste the sentence that best describe each picture on the board. 9. After that, teacher discusses the answer.

Step 2: (20 minutes) ( Group Activity)

1. Since pupils have understood the story, teacher asks them to form five groups of five members. 2. Teacher tells the pupils that now they are going help Sammy, the ugly duckling to meet his mother. 3. Teacher distributes a piece of manila card for each group, containing a picture of a map which describes a journey to the meet Sammys mother. Each group will get different maps. Group 1: A map from Sammys house to the entrance of the park. Group 2: A map from the entrance of the park until restaurant. Group 3: A map which continues the journey from group 2. Group 4: A map which continues the journey from group 3. Group 5: A map which continues the journey from group 4. .

T: Class, now I want you to form five groups. Each group must have six members.

Teaching aid: Manila card, handout.

T: Class, this is your friend, Sammy. Today you are going to help him to arrive at the farm to meet his good friend.

MV: Active participation and cooperation.

T: The maps in front of you are Sammys journey to meet his good friend. Group 1 is a journey from Sammys house to the entrance of the park. Group 2 is Sammys journey from the entrance of the park until the quarter of the journey. Group 3 is a continuous of Sammys journey from group 2. Group 4 is a continuous of Sammys journey from group 3, and group 5 is a continuous of Sammys journey from group 5 until the end of the journey.

T: The text that Ive given you describes the journey of Sammy but it is not complete. You have to refer to the maps in order to fill in the blanks in your text. Write the suitable phrases in the blanks to complete the sentence based on the pictures in the map.

Group 6 : A map from the pond until the lake where Sammy meets his mother . 4. Together with the maps, each group will also receive an incomplete text or text which has some blanks to be filled by phrases so that all sentences will become a complete sentence. Choices of answers are provided. 5. Pupils are required to refer to their maps in order to complete the text. Examples: Sammy walks straight through Tiger Road. He sees many _____ (birds) on her left. After taking some pictures, he turns to the right and walks straight through Bee Road. There is a _______ (tree) on her right and a _____ (school) on his left. There is a _______(field) beside the school. 6. Pupils continue with the activity until they have filled in all the blanks in the text and. They are given 10 minutes to complete the task.

T: You are given 10 minutes to complete the texts based on the map given.

T: Now, send representatives from your group to paste your maps on the white board and read aloud the answer that you have written by showing the class the journey.

T: So class, this is a full journey of Sammys journey to meet his good friend. Now lets check the answers whether they are correct or wrong.

7. After 10 minutes, the representatives of each group have to come to the front and read aloud the whole text of Sammys journey. They also have to paste their maps together on the board. 8. Now there is a complete map of Sammys journey to meet his mother. Teacher will then check the answers together with the pupils as a whole and make corrections if necessary. Step 3: ( 15 minutes) Teaching aid: Worksheet 1 CCTS: Making association

1. Teacher asks the pupils to sit in pairs. 2. Teacher distributes a worksheet to each of the pupils. 3. Teacher guides the pupils and gives help when necessary.

T: Class, now I want you to sit in pairs. We are going to do some exercises. T : I want you to do it on your own but you can discuss the answer with your friends.

Closure

1. Teacher elicits pupils response on what have been learned today. 2. Teacher ends the class with showing a heart warming video.

T: Class, what have you learn for today? T: We have learned the story of Ugly Duckling. T : What are the moral values that we get from the story? T : We should respect everyone equally.
