BTS CALIBRATION

Introduction to scripts Applying scripts VSWR using Anritsu Site Master CTU1 TX Calibration CTU2 TX Calibration Cable configuration

BTS CALIBRATION

Command Scripts :
Scripts for TX and RX calibration are required to be added to Procom Plus to make the activity easier and less time consuming. These are list of commands for specific activities, which run automatically on a single click, and the desired output is achieved Scripts Location:

Add the script files to the following location C:\ Program Files\ Procom Plus\Aspect All scripts are automatically picked up from Aspect file by Procom plus software

Meta Keys:
Meta Keys are user defined buttons to directly execute a script or a command

Steps to perform :
Turn on Site Master by pressing ON/OFF Press Enter to Continue Press RECALL SETUP and select GSM900 or DCS 1800 accordingly Move to Level 3 and lock all DRIs of the sector in which sweep test (VSWR) is required Remove feeder cable from the respective DRIs DUP and connect it with RF OUT port of site master Wait for 10 seconds and graphical display will appear showing the reflection throughout cable length. Press MARKER, select M1 and then press EDIT, now u can move the marker through the cable length and check reflections at any desired distance To save a current reflection, press SAVE DISPLAY, save by site name and fault location for easy access in future To view a previous display, press RECALL DISPLAY

Calibrating Site Master :

If site Master shows CAL OFF, calibrate as follows with the dummy load, labeled with open, short and load. Press Start Cal Connect OPEN to the RF OUT port, it will show success Now calibrate by connecting SHORT connect LOAD with RF out port of site master

Setting to GSM900 :
Press MODE Select FREQ-SWR and press ENTER Press F1 and enter lower limit Example F1 = 830.00 MHZ Press F2 and enter upper limit Example F2= 1000.00 MHZ (Now frequencies are set) Press MODE again Select DTF-SWR (DTF stands for distance to fault) press ENTER Press D1 to enter start distance D1= 0.0 m Press D2 to enter end distance (estimate the length of the cable, it should not be less) Example D2= 140 m (Now distance is set) To set up the amplitude, Press AMPLITUDE Select TOP and enter limit 1.5 Now select BOTTOM and enter 1 (amplitude cannot be lesser than 1) Finally, to save the settings, press SAVE SETUP Check your saved settings for GSM 900 by RECALL SETUP

DRI TX CalibrationGSM900: Required Tools:

Digital Power meter Power meter Sensor with Jumper cable and connectors Laptop with Procom Plus and TX Scripts (CTU1 & CTU2) MMI Cable for Procom terminal EQCP Cable for DRI access RSSI Cable for CTU1 clock reset

Remarque 1: we will use our sitemaster (equipped with option 5) + Anritsu RF Wattmeter Power Monitor.

Steps to perform for CTU1:

Login to site through MCUF Check site id by disp_site command State Radios by State <id> dri * * Check alarms at site disp_act <id> Check equipage and antenna select of radios by disp_eq <id> dri x y

Move to level 3 by using chg_l " command Login to BSC as follows Press Ctrl + n Write the command Rlogin 1 0114h (0114h to 0119h) Again press Ctrl + n , now you are in BSC, it can be verified by disp_site, BSC ID is 0 Change to level 3 Write the command Store <site id> to enable calibration data Now write disp_cal_data <id> dri x y to check for Store Calibration Data: enabled

Lock the sector by the command Lock <Site Id> dri x y, Repeat the same for all DRIs of the particular sector. While locking a radio, it must be noted to lock the DRI with RTF 0 at the last. RTF 0 of each sector contains BCCH

Making Power Measurements (ANRITSU S331A)

Power measurement is accomplished using a broadband (1 MHz to 3 GHz) RF detector, P/N 5400-71N50. The power monitor displays the measured power in dBm or Watts. In our case we will display measurement in Watts Entering Power Monitor Mode Step 1. Press the POWER soft key, from the Main Menu Zeroing the Power Monitor Step 2. With no power applied to the DUT, press the ZERO soft key from the Power menu. Wait a few seconds while the Site Master accumulates samples of the quiescent power level. When complete, ZERO ADJ: ON is displayed in the message area. Remove MMI cable and login to DRI using RSSI cable o MMI ROM> tcu_clock 0 (reset clock to zero) Now login to DRI using EQCP cable Run the script Alarm_Off_TX, Alternate of script is to type the following commands: o EQCP> .gsmfw o EQCP> test o EQCP Test> bbh alarm off o EQCP Test> act c o EQCP Test> cspwr Adjust the power by giving offsets through U and D keys. For GSM 900, power should be 20 Watts (>=20 W & <21 W). For DCS 1800, power should be 16 Watts (>=16 W & <17 W). To increase power use key U and to decrease power use the Key D After powers are adjusted, press ESC to quit

Calibration of one radio (CTU1) is complete. Repeat the same process for all radios to be calibrated. After completing the last DRI, remove power meter from that DRI and connect back RF cable (All radios that are calibrated are still locked) Now login to BSC and Change level by chg_l Clear calibration data of all DRIs that are calibrated by the command Clear_cal_data <site Id> dri x y Give hard reset to the radios (Must in CTU1) In service all radios by command: o Ins <Site ID> dri x y TX Calibration is complete, Note that offsets increasing 6 indicates that the particular CTU1 is faulty and may alter power again shortly. Check through disp_cal_data <id> dri x y command that offsets have changed, if offset value is changed, then TX calibration of that DRI is successful.

Steps to perform for CTU2

Unlike CTU1, CTU2 is calibrated in unlocked state, in a double density DRI, inservice one radio and keep associated radio locked

Lock the sector by the command Lock <Site Id> dri x y, repeat the same for all DRIs of the particular sector. While locking a radio, it must be noted to lock The DRI with RTF 0 at the last. RTF 0 of each sector contains BCCH

Remove RF cable from dup and connect Power meter sensor in between. Position of sensor should be such that the arrow should direct towards the antenna. Connect the jumper cable with power meter and turn it on If power meter is showing values in dbm, convert them to Watt from the front display Now that the power meter is connected to the DUP, in service one radio and keep its associated radio locked, normally , in a CTU2 with two radios, the 1st one is in-serviced and the 2nd one is left locked (0 0 in-serviced and 0 1 locked)

BTS CALIBRATION
Login to DRI using EQCP cable (no need to reset clock to 0 in case of CTU2). Run script TX_double or TX_single accordingly, depending weather theCTU2 is double density or single density Adjust the power by giving offsets through U and D keys. For GSM 900, power should be 20 Watts (>=20 W & <21 W). For DCS 1800, power should be 16 Watts (>=16 W & <17 W). To increase power use key U and to decrease power use the Key D Press Q to quit after power finally adjusted as above

CTU2 TX Scripts:
To run TX_Double/TX_Single script for CTU2
Press Alt+F3 to open Aspect file window Select TX Select CTU2 Highlight TX_Double or TX_single, depending upon radios single or double density click compile and run

Store the calibration by command cal_store 1, it will show PASS after executing this command Login back to H2SC and get the calibrated DRI locked Remove Power meter and connect back the RF cable Login to BSC

Clear previous calibration data by command clear_cal_data <Site ID> dri x y Check that the calibration data is cleared by disp_cal_data <Site ID> dri x y It should show no calibration data Now finally, in-service the radios o ins <ID> dri x y

Verifying successful
If the offset value is changed after Power calibration (using this command), calibration successful If the frequencies (in hexa decimals) have changed after RX calibration calibration successful
