behaviors.Recognizethatcontinualnegativeselftalkwillcreateresentmentsand
disempoweringbeliefs.Selfresentmentistheseedthatgrowsintoselfsabotaging
behaviors,anditiswhatyouneedtoavoid.

4.Planttheseedsthatproducepositive,empoweringbeliefsandactionsinstead.Ask
yourself,"Aremyactionslinkedtopleasureproducingsituationsortopainproducing
situations?''Taketheroadthatgivesyoupleasure,notgrief.Thepersonalgrowth
experiencedfromfacingafearfulorpainfulevent,oradversity,isimportantforself
improvement.However,donotmakeasteadydietofit.Youcangrowandchangeby
cultivatingpositiveemotionssuchasjoy,excitement,andhappiness.

Eliminatingselfsabotagingbehaviorsandadoptingamorepositivemindframe,
enhancestheconfidencethatyouhaveforyourself.Italsobuildsastrongerandwider
foundationforyouwhendevelopingyourjourneytosuccess.Thisissoashavinga

greaterbeliefinyourselfbetterpreparesyouforthefuture.Therefore,youneedto
recognizethisfactandempoweryourselfwithmorepositivethoughtsandemotions.

3.2AcceptingTheCircumstances

Acceptingyourcurrentcircumstancesisanimportantindicationthatyouareatpeace
withyourself.Thethingsthatyouhavegonethroughandtheexperiencesthathave
madeyouwhoyouareneedtoberecognizedandacceptedbyyoufully.

Whenanindividualhasanattitudeofpartialapprovalorpartialacceptanceofhimself,
anattitudeofconditionalacceptancedevelops.Statementssuchas,"I'llacceptmyself
when..."Thiscouldcreatehurt,anger,fear,anddistrustwithintheindividual.Whenyou
attachunreasonableconditions,youropportunitiesforaccomplishmentandenjoyment
willnaturallydiminishifyouarenotabletomeetthedemandssetout.Assuch,an
attitudeofconditionalacceptancecreatesresistancetoahealthypersonaldevelopment
foryou.Settlingforbeingpartiallyacceptedasapersonisnotenoughbecauseitdoes
notprovideenoughemotionalandphysicalnourishment.

Conditionalacceptancehindersyourselfrespectandcreatesresistancetowardgrowth
andchange.Startacceptingandconfirmingyourselfasatotalpersonphysically,
emotionally,mentally,andspiritually.Startbehavingandbelievingthatyouare
unique,a"crownofcreation."Whenyouexpectmoreofyourselfyouwillgetmore.
Whenyoucommunicatethroughanegativeselfimage,yourmessagelacksconfidence
anddetermination.Conditionalacceptancebreedsmistrust,fear,andrejectionby

yourselfandothersaround.Thisconditionalsocreatesdamagingselftalk,decreasing
selfesteemandproducingnonharmoniousrelationships.

Overcomingresistanceisdifficultwhenoneisdiscouragedanddemotivated.Taking
risksisnotahighpriorityforthepersonwhoexperiencesconditionalacceptance.When
thepersonisdisheartenedanddiscouragedtheymaysay,Whytroublemyselfwith
anything?WithmyluckIwasboundtofail.I'mnotgettinganywhere."These
statementsaresignsoffrustrationandhopelessness.Conditionalacceptancecreates
discouragementandresistancetowardchangeandgrowth.Unconditionalacceptance
createsencouragement,warmth,andunderstandinginrelationships.Resistanceto
growthiseliminatedwhenoneisfeelsunconditionallyacceptedbyhimandothers.

However,youmaywonder,Isntacceptingthingseasy?Isntitonlynaturaltoaccept
whengoodthingscometoyou?

Ideally,itissupposedtobeeasyandverynatural.Unfortunately,thisisnotalwaystrue.
Somepeopleactuallyfindithardtoacceptgoodthingsinlifeastheyareexperiencing
negativeemotionsthatblocktheflowofgoodthingstothem.Whenpeopleexperience
lowselfesteem,resentment,fearorguilt,itisdifficultforthemtoreceivefromothers
aroundthem.

Somepeoplehavebeenusedtolivinginlackandhardships.Thismayresultinthem
havingacharacteristicofpoorselfimageorlackofselfesteem,consciouslyor
unconsciously.Inotherwords,theydonotfeelthattheydeservetoexperienceany
goodthingsinlife.Worse,somemayactuallysabotagetheirowndreamsusually
unconsciously.Thismaymeanthattheycouldalreadyclosetotheirgoals,whenthey
suddenlydosomethingthatwilltakethemfurtherawayfromit.

Suchfeelingsofunworthinessusuallyspringfromchildhoodormaycomeintheformof
traumafromasingleeventorrepeatedevents,athomeoratschool.Thetraumamay
havealastingimpactonthoughtpatterns,selfimageandbehavioreveninadulthood.

Tocheckifyouarecapableofacceptingyourselfandtheoutcomeofyourdesiredgoals,
youcancarryoutthefollowingexercises.

1.Askyourself:AmIwillingtoreceivethisfully?Areyouinalight,happymood
wheneveryouthinkaboutyourgoal,visualizeit,andimagineitsoutcome?Ordoyou
getknotsinyourstomach,howeverfleeting?Doyousometimesfeel,evenbriefly,that
youdonotdeservetheoutcomewhenyouvisualizeit?Doyoufeelguiltinanyway?

Ifyoudofindthatapartofyoufeelsthatyoudonotdeservetheoutcomeofyourgoal,
honestlyaskyourselfwhy.Ifthistriggersapainfulchildhoodmemory,thenyoushould
allowthatmemoryandfeelingsenteryou.Avoidfightingitandinsteadallowyourselfto

feeltheemotionsthataccompanythem.Shouldyoufeelthatyouneedhelpsortingout
yourfeelingsandmemoriesinordertohealyourpast,youcouldseekhelpandsupport

one,andfeelyourselfgettinglighterandlighter.Afterputtingallyourbagsdown,walk
away.

Now,toreplaceallthenegativefeelingsassociatedwiththesepainfulmemorieswith
positiveonesthatboostyourselfimage,makeaffirmationsaboutyourwortheveryday,
