The system is now used only as a forwarding mechanism where the files are stored if the transfer is unsuccessful. The stored files are 'ept for a predetermined )currently set to 43 days* amount of time or until they ha e been successfully resent. The BTU system was de eloped by this endor organiEation to manage data transfers between different external and internal applications and organiEations. The system uses BTP )Bile Transfer Protocol* as the transfer mechanism and as such can send or recei e data files )transfers* between any hardware platforms running BTP. -t is assumed that the following steps are followed to re/uest a new BTU number to be generated, User notifies BTU Support of the intention to create a new transfer.
