Choices
What will be (or has been) the motivating forces behind your scheduling and/or course choices? Explain how they are or are
not the forces you wanted them to be, or how they are a combination of the two.
For as long as I can remember, I have had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge that has continued to grow throughout the
years. When I first started my college career, I was merely a high school sophomore and sixteen years old. At first, I chose my classes
to fulfill requirements but then as I started taking my humanities courses became more interested in the way in which cultures were
formed, how they were shaped by the things they constructed, and how these related to other cultures. I knew my goal was not to
travel and document cultures though, so I followed the path of studying business while taking a close interest in psychology,
sociology, and the humanities.
Once I transferred to UCF, I knew that I wanted to study communications since it joined my passion for art and desire to
understand why the media held so much power. I wanted to approach communication from an open perspective of appreciation and
passion for diversity. At the same time, I wanted to learn more about how I could use my passion for art to use visual rhetoric to
connect to my audience and convey a specific message. I wanted to learn to create communication initiatives that inspired and created
change that looked towards the understanding and appreciation of culture amongst employees and/or its public.
As time has passed, more companies are becoming aware of the importance of a global understanding of culture and the need
to embrace these new perspectives. My goal is to join a culturally aware company who is aware of the power of diversity to create
stronger relationships with their specific audience. If the company is still working on becoming diverse, however, Id like to create
programs to help individuals from different cultures to become more aware on this topic. The complexity of a diverse world required
me to focus on studying different aspects of communications as it related to art, writing, and intercultural relationships. I chose my
courses based on my passions and goals. I firmly believe that if youre passionate about something and you work hard to achieve it,
your success will be defined by your efforts.
