Introduction

On the 12 July 2012, Dr. Law brought our class went to visit Oren Sport Company which located at Johor Jaya. The aim we went there was to have a deep understanding on the training and development. It was indeed a good experience for us to have a sharing with the staff of the Oren Sport. This sharing gave us a lot of knowledge and helped us to know the practice of the training and development in the working place.

1. How training needs analysis is performed in the company?


Oren Sport is a company which provides training and development for the employees in the company. In this company, they conducted training needs analysis before implementing the training program. The training needs analysis of Oren Sport is divided into four categories, which are business direction of the company, skill, knowledge and attitude analysis, Job profile analysis and KPI analysis. The first aspect of the training needs analysis of the company is to understand the business direction. To know the business direction, it is important to know the mission, vision and goals of the company. By knowing the business direction, the company can conduct a training which suits to the direction that the company moves toward. For instance, Oren Sports vision is to become a global renowned company in the world. Therefore, their employees are well trained in order to fulfill their vision. The second aspect is the skill, knowledge and attitude analysis. It is to measure the employees skill, knowledge and attitude in order to decide whether they need to be trained or not. Oren Sport uses performance appraisal to analyze the employees performance in the company. Each of the head of department will analyze the skill and quality of the employees before implementing the training. The attendance and the communication of the employees are the two of the criteria that are evaluated. After analyzing the performance of the employees, the head of department will write a report which includes the reason why the employees need to be trained and what training is most suitable for them. Besides that, Oren Sport will also use the job specification and job description to analyze the training needs of the employees. The company will analyze the training program according to their position in the company. Each of the departments employees has different job scope and responsibilities. For instance, a counter executive need to have a lot of communication with the customers and has to know the product knowledge of the company. Therefore, the company can give the counter executive a training which consists of the communication skill, product knowledge and company information of the company.

The last aspect of the training needs analysis is to analyze with the KPI. KPI means the key performance indicator. Key performance indicator (KPI) is an industry jargon for a type of performance measurement.Oren Sport uses KPI to identify the employees performance in their job. With this KPI system, company can know whether the performance of a particular employee is good or bad. Company can also know the reason for their low performance. Therefore, the company can conduct a training program in order to improve the performance of the employees. In conclusion, Oren Sport has a good training needs analysis system to analyze the needs of the employees before conducting and implementing a training program. With this training needs analysis, the company can have a good training program and can improve the skills and knowledge of the employees in order to achieve the goals that set by the company.

2. Does the company promote training and development among the staffs?
Oren Sport had promoted the training and development among the staffs. After the study tour to the famous company in Johor Jaya, Oren Sport, we realized that Oren Sport has become a leader in corporate uniform provider in Malaysia and Singapore. It was founded in year 1995 and it has a lot of experiences in training and development during these seventeen years. A company should have some methods to recruit and retain its employees. And one of the methods is to give employees opportunities to present themselves through training and development. In addition, implementation of training and development can motivate employees interest and performance. Oren Sport provides comprehensive training and development to its employees. The objective of the training and development is to improve employees knowledge, skill and attitude at workplace and to achieve companys goal and objective. Therefore, Oren Sport is a company that emphasizes the needs and quality of its employees. As Oren Sport believes that committed employees will provide superior delivery standards that

will lead to higher customer satisfaction and loyalty, until this present, Oren Sport continues to expand training, extend employee achievement recognition and reward programs. Furthermore, Oren Sport will identify training needs though three aspects which are company business direction, job profile analysis and KPI (Key Performance Indicator). Skill, knowledge and attitude of employees will be analyzed before implementing training programs.

3. Is training evaluation done in the company and how?


After visited Oren Sport, we found that Oren Sport had done the training evaluation in the company. The company had ensured that training methods meet the requirements of trainees, relate them to their training needs and reduce the training costs. The company had also successfully followed up and ensures all training program are carried out as planned. Through the training evaluation, Oren Sport used it to find out the weaknesses of the training program so that in future such things can be taken care of. As the result the company can determine which is the best methods and most effective training program that can be provide to their employees in the future. It is also to build up the morale of employees by plans the training program according to the learning habit of employees. Besides that, Oren Sport used the training evaluation to analyze and evaluate training result effectiveness. Oren Sport provide training evaluation form to the employees to ask whether the learner felt they learned anything, whether they liked the teaching style, and for any other relevant feedback. It is to find out the effect of employees after go through the training program and ensure that whether learners have transferred their learning into their daily job or not.

In conclusion, Oren Sport had used some process of assessing the effectiveness of training undertaken by employees to ensure the training program can improve the performance of employees and lead the company to achieve success.
