WHAT ARE WE GOING TO BUILD?

Amo la Pizza di Chicago

is a small family owned business that operates in suburban Chicago. They would like to branch out and work with local fund-raising for groups like school athletics teams, Boy and Girl Scouts, and study-abroad programs. In order to accomplish this, they have selected BigMachines to help them develop an online application to place and manage group orders.

REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS: DEFINE ATTRIBUTES

What is an attribute?
An attribute is a property that helps define the configured product. Attributes A ib are most commonly l used df for U User Sid Side interactions i i to make k selections for the configuration.

For Example: p

Cheese

Pepperoni

Crust

Size

45

confidential

CONFIGURABLE ATTRIBUTES

Not all product attributes are fit to be a BigMachines configurable attribute.

Ask yourself the following questions to see if it needs to be included:
Does it drive any constraints or recommendations? Does it drive any hiding attribute rules?
Other attributes will be shown/hidden based on this

Does it affect the BOM? Does it affect Pricing? Is it required for any system calculated values? Does it drive any text that need to be displayed on the printer-friendly proposal? If the answer is YES to ANY of the above questions, then it should be a configurable attribute If the answer is NO to ALL of the above questions, then it is not required to be a configurable attribute

REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS IDENTIFY RELATIONSHIPS

What are relationships? p

A relationship is an interaction between attributes defined by a rule.

Types:
Recommendations
Based on attribute A, recommend option B for attribute C

Co st a ts Constraints
Based on attribute A, constrain option B for attribute C

Hiding
Based on attribute A, hide attribute B

Recommended Items
Based on attribute A, add part XYZ

52

confidential

REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS: IDENTIFY RELATIONSHIPS

Recommendations
Force attribute selections Change attributes Display messages
For Example:
Specialties
Meat Eaters: Pepperoni & Sausage The Works: Sausage, Green Pepper, Onion, & Mushroom

It forces Topping selection based on a selection for the Specialties attribute.

53

confidential

REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS: IDENTIFY RELATIONSHIPS

Constraints
Hide choices for attributes Prevent attribute selection Display error messages
For Example:
*Deep Deep Dish not available in Small size

It limits the choices of Crust Type based on the selection for Size

54

confidential

REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS: IDENTIFY RELATIONSHIPS

Hide
Hide non-applicable attributes

For Example:
Ranch or Marinara Dipping Sauce available for free

Dipping Sauce is only applicable when a Side Order is chosen. This means it can be hidden otherwise.

55

confidential

REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS: IDENTIFY RELATIONSHIPS

Recommended Items
Add parts as line items on the quote Add parts as mandatory or optional (up-sells)
For Example:
Mozzarella Sticks $4.00 Fried Calamari $5.00 Garlic Bread Soup of the Day $3.00 $2.00

Ranch or Marinara Dipping Sauce available for free

Its easy to see how these parts relate to the selections for Side Orders and Dipping Sauce.

REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS: ASSIGN PRICING

Which option p should I use?

Consult the business requirements!

REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS: ASSIGN PRICING

Small
Thin Crust Deep Dish* Each Topping $10.00 n/a $1.00

Medium
$12.00 $17.00 $1.00

Large
$15.00 $20.00 $1.00

Side Orders
Mozzarella Sticks Fried Calamari Garlic Bread Soup of the Day $4.00 $5.00 $3.00 $2.00

We know we have parts for Side Orders Use Part Pricing for those items Pizza price Pi i depends d d on Size, Si Crust C t Type, T and d Toppings T i This suggests a Pricing Rule might be the best option

Use Pricing Rules when:

You dont have parts, but need to assign a price Price is dependant on many different attributes, or combinations of attributes. Your business uses a base price + adder pricing scheme

58

confidential

REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS: ENHANCE USER EXPERIENCE

Blueprint p Process
Can be very open-ended and will require frequent refactoring

Blueprint Considerations:
Will it need to support configuring multiple pizzas at the same time? Can side orders be configured without a pizza? H How easy is i it i for f a novice i to update d the h pricing i i scheme? h ? Can someone unfamiliar with the product use it?

Extra time spent during blueprint will save 2x 5x the time during construct.
