Kaleb & Quintons Mexican Christmas Vacation

In late December, right before Christmas 2013, Renzi students and cousins Kaleb and Quinton took their annual vacation to Mexico. According to Kaleb, their entire family caravans by car on a two day trip to Mexico where they spend the Christmas holidays with family. The boys grandmother and other relatives live on a big

ranch where they raise chickens. They also have horses, cows, dogs and cats on the ranch. The boys stayed in Mexico until time to return to Shreveport for school. Other cousin Marcus plans to visit his grandmother this summer. Five things that Kaleb found interesting in Mexico: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. There were only 2 cats on the ranch. There was a mean black dog that barked at him. He rode a German Shepherd dog. He rode a horse. Fireworks can be bought

every day. An older cousin threw a firecracker at him, which burned his neck. Six things that Quinton found interesting in Mexico: 1. 2. 3. I went to a McDonalds inside of a market. I saw my cousins. One of my cousins left me. Another cousin came and picked me up in a big truck. The best part was getting to see my Grandma. We didnt have Internet. We could only go online if we went into the city. He went to 4 parties!

At Renzi on January 9th, all eyes were on the sky. We had SNOW flurries all afternoon! It inspired a great deal of snow themed art in Mrs. Careys painting class!

Bunnies should only eat carrots occasionally, but they love fruit! They can run 15-35 miles per hour. The smaller the bunny, the faster it runs. A bunnys heart is the size of a large grape. They have very delicate bones.

Boy Scouts Volunteer Time For Renzi Repairs

Boy Scout Troop 48 recently adopted the Renzi Center as their service project. They held a carwash fundraiser to collect money for the supplies they needed. They sanded and primed 2 boards to hold last sessions Mural Painting class works of art. They boys also built 2 new benches for the Renzi play yard, planted some new flowers and herbs, and repaired the steps leading into the Academic House. Paper Mache Class - A Kid Pleaser!

Paper mache is an art form in which you use news paper, masking tape, and glue to create a variety of sculptures that can be painted when dry. Mrs. Christy was fascinated by the African masks that some of the Renzi teachers made using the paper mache process. With help from a handful of novices from the convent, Christy wanted to give a class of this type a try.

This is the first time the novices have used paper mache but the ladies are very creative and in turn, have created an exciting class experience! The class is taught by Miss Tsungai, Miss Champa, and Miss Joysree.

Cat Donates Her Hair to a Good Cause

Catherine recently got her long locks cut at Avalon Hair Salon as her way to give back to the Shreveport community. Using her grandmothers struggle with breast cancer as inspiration, she gladly donated her hair to help create wigs for people in need.
