ASSIGNMENT (100%)
Task 1: Individual work (20%)
(a)

Read and make short notes on how two sounds in English are produced.

(b)

Read and make short notes on the following terms and how they are related to word formation
processes (e.g. Coinage, Conversion, Back-formation, Blending etc.).

The sounds should be part of the KBSR English syllabus.


The sounds may be consonants, vowels or diphthongs.
Your notes should include the points and manner of articulation in producing these
sounds.

* Present your notes from 1(a) and 1(b) in an organized manner.

You may use graphic organizers, non-linear text etc.


Your notes must be substantiated by relevant academic references from reliable
sources (electronic and/or print).

Task 2: Individual work (20%)


(a)

Design an activity to practise the sounds in 1(a) (e.g. tongue twisters, minimal pairs, jazz chants,
etc.).
The two sounds may be practised separately or together depending on the activity.

(b)

Design an activity to practise any one of the word formation processes listed in 1(b) above.
* For 2(a) and 2(b), use the following guidelines:

The activities designed should be suitable for a mixed-ability primary level language
classroom (any year).
The time allocated for each activity is 10-15 minutes.
The activities may be carried out at any stage of an English Language lesson.

Task 3: Individual work (20%)


(a)

Conduct an oral presentation of the classroom activities you have designed in 2(a) and 2(b)
above.
The presentation should include a brief introduction on the target group, the focus of
the activity, and the stage at which it will be carried out.
The presentation must include a demonstration of the activity.
The maximum time allocated for the presentation for each activity is 10-15 minutes.
Record the presentation on CD.
Assessment will be based on the recorded presentation.

Task 4: Individual work (20%)


(a)

Write a justification/rationale of your choice of activities designed in 2(a) and 2(b) explaining how
these activities are based on the principles of teaching and learning language.
Your justification should contain about 1,000 words.
You must include at least two academic references from reliable sources (electronic
and/or print), cited using the APA format and listed in the bibliography.

Task 5 : Individual work (20%)


(a)

Read the article on Structural Ambiguity given.

Write your individual response in about 700 words on Ambiguities Around Us.

Procedure:

This coursework requires you to work individually and in group.

properly cited.
