Chi Mun

(First Level/Year, The Teachings of the Elder Sanghans/Sthaviravada) "Chi" means "to dye", or "to be thoroughly penetrated", and refers to two ancient and traditonal Buddhist monastic practices that are analogous to one another: [1] the practice of wearing dyed robes and [2] thoroughly immersing oneself in the practice. "Mun" means "gate" or "to enter", and refers to entering the way. The Sutra Curriculum of the "Chi Mun" Year follows the pattern of intruction passed down through through the ages by the Elders of the Sangha, systemized in China in the 14th Century of the Common Era, and systemitized between the 14th and 17th Centuries in Korea. The Anthology of advice and teaching framework of the Elder Masters for those newly entering monastic life and Buddhist study is named "Chi Mun," thus the name for the first year of studies.
