ASSIGNMENT 5

PART 1: I strongly think it is not a good idea to friend a supervisor on Facebook. Facebook is a social platform where people tend to share a lot of things about their personal life which says something more about their likes, interests, political views. I believe its better not to involve professional life with personal life. Professional life should be kept away from personal life and adding people at workplace to Facebook can lead to such things. Personally, I never add supervisors and even colleagues on my Facebook profile. I prefer to maintain a strictly professional yet friendly relation with people at my work place but I think that the level of transparency to personal lives should be kept as minimal as possible. Many a times people share many personal thoughts and controversial views regarding public issues which could be contrary to few others opinions in the workplace. This way there is a chance of personal discrepancies to arise within the team which could lead to an unhealthy environment in the workplace affecting the productivity atleast to an extent if not significantly. Same is the case if we look from a Supervisors perspective. By adding employees in Facebook and getting to know them personally can change the managers attitude towards his employees and there is a chance that he could act biased while taking decisions. The relation between supervisors and supervisees should be limited to workplace and beyond that only social gatherings once in a while should be fine. More of social life could lead to the formation of like minded groups within the team which would end up reducing the overall productivity of the team as a whole and the workplace ambience is affected badly.

Weaknesses: 1) I do not have the required experience in ETL development that is needed for this position 2) I am not so good when it comes to Written communication

Can you describe for me challenges you may have to overcome to be successful in this job?

I would consider myself an ideal fit for this position, considering my educational qualifications and my strengths which would make me excel in this job. But the only challenge that I have in taking up this position is the lack of required experience in a specific area(ETL Development) which is needed for this job. If I am able to excel in this aspect, then without any second thought I would be the right candidate for this job.

How will you compensate for abilities or attributes that you have not fully developed?

Though I do not have required experience in ETL development, I have a lot of relevant experience which make me very familiar with the job responsibilities. I am pretty sure that my overall experience in the IT field and my strong SQL skills will enable me to get upto the necessary speed very quickly. My innovative and passionate nature will help me to put in extra efforts to compensate for my lack of sufficient experience.

What would you expect the company to do for you to ensure your success in this job?

I know the company has a lot of credibility in the outside market and this opportunity to work for this company is itself a very great honor and gives me a lot of confidence and boost to work towards the path of success. Also, this place has few of the best resources, in the company of whom I can get to learn many new things which would contribute to the success of my job. Working for this prestigious organization would give me a lot of professional satisfaction which is enough to drive me towards my goals and other than this there is nothing in specific that I expect the company to do.
