Theme of the Seminar : Womens equality has made positive gains but the world is still unequal. Inspiring Change is the global hub and encourages advocacy for womens advancement everywhere in every way. It calls for challenging the status quo for womens equality and vigilance inspiring positive change. In no region of the developing world are women equal to men in legal, social and economic rights. Gender inequality, which remains pervasive worldwide, tends to lower the productivity of labour and the efficiency of labour allocation in households and the economy, intensifying the unequal distribution of resources. It also contributes to the non-monetary aspects of poverty-lack of security, opportunity and empowerment that lower the equality of life for both men and women, while women and girls been the largest and most direct costs of these inequalities, the costs cut broadly across society, ultimately hindering development and poverty reduction. Gender equality in the context of development relates to the importance of womens capacity to exercise agency which express the goals of womens empowerment and gender justice. There are a variety of ways in which women can be empowered, including through access to the economic, social and political resources identified by the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Despite persistent gender inequalities, there has been progress since 1975, the year is significant because it was declared by UNO as International Womens Year and moreover the first World Conference on Women was held in Mexico City . In the same year in many parts of the world gender inequalities in schooling and health have decreased, though significant gaps persist in some countries. Progress has also been made in recognizing the cross cutting nature of gender issues and their relevance to development effectiveness and poverty reduction. There is now a shared understanding with in the development community that development policies and actions that fail to take gender inequality into account and fail to address dis-

parities between males and females will have limited effectiveness and serious cost implications. In this context the present seminar on the topic entitled INSPIRING CHANGE TOWARDS GENDER EQUALITY assumes significance. Therefore the present seminar will be organized during 1st and 2nd March 2014 to explore the challenges of gender equality which is essential for the sustainable human development. Sub Themes : 1. Gender Equality and Millennium Development Goals. 2. Gender Responsive Budgeting. 3. Women and Double burden of work. 4. Women in Informal Sector. 5. Womens Rights to Land and Property. 6.
