The Solar System Science- Grade 6

Lesson Overview
The solar system is the Sun and the objects that orbit the Sun. That also includes the eight planets the inner planets namely; Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars and the outer planets; Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune these are the objects in the solar system. Context The pupils who are 11-12 years old are diagnosed with partial visual and hearing impairment. The students are provided with assistive technology that would help them learn and to also support their learning needs accordingly. There are also services that are available for them, like for the partially hearing impaired, there is a teacher aid available that would translate the lessons by using sign language. For the partially blind, there are materials that are provided that would also help them to easily learn, like there are instructional materials, for the planets, there are round styrofoams representing the planets and how its position that represents what the solar system consists of. Large-monitors, text-to-speech software are also accommodations for these students. Objectives: At the end of the session, the pupils are expected to recall the different planets and their different characteristics in chronological order for 5 minutes. Experience For the activity, the students will arrange the proper order of the planets. For the partial visual impairment, there is speech recognition software available for them to use. They will verbally say the proper order of the planets. As for the partially hearing impaired given a set of pictures, they will arrange the planets in order. After doing the first activity, the teacher will then process what the activity was about. The digital story telling will then be presented; it will present what a solar system is and what is consisting of it. There would also be a translator for the partially hearing impaired that uses sign language. After the digital story is presented, the teacher will have to make a review and clarify things in the lesson. A seatwork will then be given to evaluate them regarding the topic.

Reflection The students will be asked the ff. questions to deepen their understanding about the lesson: What is a solar system? What are the objects that compose the solar system? What are the different planets found in the solar system in order? How do these planets differ from each other?

Action After the lesson, the pupils will be given then an assignment about making their own solar system with the use of clay, and that would include of the planets in order. They can just place it in in one-fourth illustration board and present their work next meeting. Evaluation After the discussion the pupils will be given an activity that will also serve as their seatwork. The seatwork would be identifying which planet is being describe according to its characteristics. Ex. Mercury 1. first planet in the solar system
