General Trend: Visitor arrivals to Singapore both fell for Japan and USA between 1997 and 2007. Visitors arrivals to Singapore from USA is quite constant throughout the year but visitor arrivals from Japan decline sharply.

Between 1997 and 1998, visitor arrivals for Japan fell sharply as compared to USA, which only experienced a slight fall. Visitor arrivals from Japan fell by 250 000 while visitor arrivals for USA only fell by about 50 000. Between 2000 and 2003, visitor arrivals for both countries fell, with Japan falling much faster than USA. Japan fell by 500 000 while USA fell by 50000 visitors. Between 2004 and 2005, visitor arrivals fell slightly for both countries. Japan fell by 100 000 visitors and USA fell by about 50 000 visitors. b. In 2008, increase in fuel prices resulted in a drop in tourist numbers to & from countries such as Singapore due to more expensive ticket prices
