Question:1. The side of one square is 2 centimeters longer than the side of a second square.

If the sum of their areas is 100cm squared, find the length of the side of each square. 2. The side of a square is 2 inches longer than the side of a second square. If the sum of their areas is 130in squared, find the length of the side of each square. 3. The area of a rectangle is 35. If the length is 2 more than the width, find the dimensions of the rectangle. I know that #1 and 2 are about the same but i still need to learn how to do both. If you can't or dont know how to show your work, you can just explain it in words. In all three, there is some form of quadratic that has to be solved. For the first one, I tried to work it out: The first square's side is represented as x. If A = s^2 then, A = x^2 The second square's side is represented as x+2. So, A = (x+2) (x-2), which equals A = x^2 + 4x + 4. When combined, I get x^2 + x^2 + 4x + 4 = 100 I need help finishing this problem and the other two. Answers:1)The answer is 8 and 6. 8x8=64 6x6=36 64+36=100 2)The answer is 9 and 7 9x9=81 7x7=49 81+49=130 3) The answer is 7 and 5 7-5=2 7x5=35 Question:A rectangle has a length of 10 feet less than two times its width. If the area of the rectangle is 132 square feet, find the length of the rectangle. i forget the formula for the area of a rectangle 4s? Answers:Let breadth of rectangle = x And length of rectangle = y but according to question y = 2x-10 we know, Area of rectangle=length X breadth = y multiply by x = (2x-10)x But Area given = 132 Therefore, x(2x-10) =132 =>2x -10x-132=0 =>x -5x-66=0 (taking 2 common) =>x 11x+6x-66=0 =>x(x-11)+6(x-11)=0 =>(x-11)(x-6)=0 Either x = 11 or x = - 6 Since breadth cannot be negative so x=11 Now length = 2x-10 Therefore, length=2(11)-10 =12 feet Question:A storage room has a ceiling that is 10 feet high. The floor is shaped like a rectangle with dimensions 12 feet. The walls and ceiling of this room are being painted. 1. What is the area that is being painted? 2. A can of paint can cover about 350 feet. How many cans of paint should be purchased to paint the room? I'm really confused on what to do because I've never actually been good at finding the area of things/shapes. Please help... Answers:get the area of the ceiling and the walls separately, then add; ceiling: 12 * 12 = 144 walls = 10 * 12 = 120, but 4 walls means that total area is 480 total area being painted = 144 + 480 = 624 sqrt feet To get the amount of paint needed, do 624/350 = 1.78 cans, so purchase 2 cans. Question:You have a rectangle with area 48 square units inscribed in a circle with radius 5 units. The center of the circle is at point (0,0) on a coordinate plane. How would you find / what are the points of the four corners of the rectangle? Answers:The rectangle is perfectly centered in the circle, so the rectangle's diagonal is a diameter of the circle. Draw one diagonal, so you have a right triangle with a diagonal of 10, and length * width = 48. You shoul dbe able to solve the problem from there, as it pretty much needs to be an integer solution. WP3-Solve Rectangle if you know area :Video by Julie Harland yourmathgal This is a Word Problem you solve by writing an equation and factoring. Word Problem 3 - Area of a RectangleUse the info from a picture of a rectangle to find the length and width is its area is 54 sq. ft. Word Problem Involving the Perimeter of a Rectangle :Word Problem Involving the Perimeter of a Rectangle. In this problem, I give the perimeter of a rectangle, a relationship between the length and width of the rectangle, and use that information to find the exact value of the length and width.

I need help solving this word problem please: A rectangle is 4 cm longer than it is wide. If the length and width are both decreased by 2 cm, the area is decreased by 24 cm2 (I'm trying to type cm squared). Find the dimensions of the original rectangle.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Well you have a rectangle of length x + 4cm multiplied by x: (x+4)*x = x^2+4x (this is the original area of the rectangle) The length and width are reduced by 2cm so: (x+2)(x-2) = x^2+4 (this is the new area of the rectangle) So the original area of the rectangle is decreased by 24cm^2 so: x^2-4 = x^2+4x-24 Rearrange to find x gives:

-4 = 4x-24 x = 20/4 x=5 So dimensions of the original rectangle are 9cm by 5cm. To double check we do 9*5 = 45 cm^2 7*3 = 21 cm^2 Difference of 24cm^2 Does this make sense?
