2030 Lesson Plan


Instructor- Kristen Powers


Lesson Duration- 50 minuet class
Lesson Title- Punnett Squares
Grade Level- 7th grade
Subject- Science

Learning objectives

o After completing the lesson plan, students will be able to complete a


Punnett Square with a 95% accuracy rate.

Lesson summary

o I will quickly go through a PowerPoint on Punnett Squares. I will then


give a practice quiz to see where students stand. After that will teach in
depth about Punnett Squares. Then I will go over many examples for
the class and finally give out a quiz to make sure that my students
understand Punnett Squares.


Materials

o Computer- I will use the computer to create a power point.


o PowerPoint and projector- I will show the PowerPoint using the
projector.
o Chalk board and chalk- I will be up at the board teaching and
explaining how to properly fill out a Punnett Square.
o Paper- Students will need paper to take notes and write copy down the
examples that I give them on the board.
o Pencil- students will need to write down the examples given.
o Practice quiz- A practice quiz will be given at the beginning of class to
check to see where the students stand with their understanding and to
identity where there is confusion.
o End of class quiz- a quiz will be given at the end to class to make sure
that my students understand the materials presented to them.


Instructional Procedures

o I will start class with a PowerPoint of a quick run though about what
Punnett Squares are. (10 min)

o I will then give out a practice quiz to see where kids are struggling and
to see where they stand with understanding the material. (5 min)
o Based on their performance on the practice quiz, I will teach more in
depth about Punnett Squares and why they are important to
understand. (15min)
o After teaching about Punnett Squares, I will show many examples and
have the students interact and come to the board to complete the
examples provided. (10 min)
o Following the lesson, I will be giving a quiz at the end of class to check
for students understanding and to make sure that no one is struggling
on the topic. (10 min)

Evaluation

o Practice quiz- Students will be given a blank Punnett Square and will
be asked to complete it. I will use this practice quiz to see how much
my students alright know.
o End of class quiz- Students will be given 3 blank Punnett Squares and
will be asked to complete them. I will use this quiz to make sure that
my students understand how to properly fill out a Punnett Square.
