Creating Synergetic Curriculum and Instruction

Lucy Gray, M.Ed. is an experienced teacher and observer of educational
innovation. She works to modernize K-12 education in all schools. Lucy is a frequent presenter at national conferences, and serves as the co-chair of the annual Global Education Conference. Well known for her professional development coaching, virtual conference development, and school-wide and district-wide strategic planning, Lucys career began in the Chicago Public School system where she taught primary grades. She went on to serve in various capacities related to educational technology at the University of Chicago's Laboratory Schools, Urban Education Institute and Center for Elementary Mathematics and Science Education. She has been honored as an Apple Distinguished Educator and Google Certified Teacher.

Katherine McKnight, Ph.D. is an author, educator and a nationally

recognized literacy consultant. Her career began as a high school English teacher in the Chicago Public School system. She received her B.A. degree from George Washington University, her M.Ed. from Northeastern Illinois University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Today, she serves as a professor of secondary education at National Louis University and speaks globally as an expert on inclusive classrooms, multimodal instruction strategies, and differentiated instruction. Katie regularly publishes in professional journals and is the author of many books including The Common Sense Guide to the Common Core, and The Teachers Big Book of Graphic Organizers, Grades 5-12 (recipient of the 2013 Teachers Choice Award).

Katherine McKnight and Lucy Gray (both national leaders in literacy and technology, respectively) as they lead you through the key paradigmatic shifts in CCSS, with a particular focus on literacy and technology, then guide you and your colleagues to create curriculum that meets the expectations for college and career readiness.

One-day workshop agenda:
8:009:00 a.m. How does literacy and technology build content knowledge and skills for college and career readiness? We will look at school examples and closely analyze what tools and strategies are used to successfully integrate literacy and technology. 9:159:30 a.m. Break (and book fair when applicable) 9:3011:00 a.m. Katie and Lucy will provide many different resources (including apps, websites, and templates) for building engaging curriculum that integrates technology and literacy to build content knowledge. 11:0011:45 a.m. Creating Curriculum: Participants will work individually or in groups to develop units using the resources that were presented in the morning session. Lucy and Katie will provide individual coaching during the curriculum development. This process will continue after lunch. 11:4512.45 p.m. Lunch (When possible, a working lunch on site) 12:452:30 p.m. Creating Curriculum (continued) 2:303:30 p.m. Participants will share their units through large group discussion and upload into a shared folder for attendees.
